Job Description

The hiring establishment is a healthcare facility dedicated to providing exceptional food service tailored to the needs of its patients, staff, and visitors. As a vital part of the hospital's nutritional and culinary services, the team ensures that meals are prepared, assembled, delivered, and presented in a manner that adheres to strict diet guidelines, safety standards, and productivity benchmarks. This healthcare food service environment combines the technical aspects of food preparation with compassionate service to enhance the dietary experience of patients and maintain the operational excellence of the facility. The environment requires attention to detail, adherence to health and sanitation regulations, and effective communication with various stakeholders including hospital staff, patients, and visitors.

This role focuses on assembling patient and mobile meal trays according to approved diet guidelines and portions while maintaining productivity standards. The position also involves loading and transporting food carts, delivering patient trays to rooms, and may include interactions with visitors in the cafeteria, managing food service and maintaining cleanliness in that area. The individual is expected to assist with catering efforts, set up and clean up events, and be involved in promotional activities such as special day decoration and displaying daily specials. Preparation of snacks, beverages, sandwiches, and other food items must follow standardized recipes and approved diet guidelines with a focus on food safety and presentation. The role requires replenishing food service areas, ensuring that all nursing units and departments such as doctors’ lounges and emergency rooms receive consistent and timely deliveries.

Emphasis on safe food handling procedures is paramount, including monitoring food temperatures and applying protocols to prevent foodborne illness. The job demands the use of various kitchen equipment, washing duties, and sanitation tasks in adherence to established procedures. Physical demands include standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 40 pounds, as well as a tolerance for working in environments where exposure to heat, odors, dust, mechanical and electrical hazards occur. Protective clothing and safety measures must be observed especially when entering patient isolation rooms or handling sharp kitchen utensils.

This healthcare food service position does not require formal education or prior experience, making it accessible to individuals seeking entry into the food service industry within a hospital setting. The job emphasizes good communication, customer service skills, and basic computer literacy including familiarity with Microsoft Office and internet use. The work atmosphere is dynamic and physically active, requiring adherence to detailed operational protocols and a commitment to supporting the hospital’s overall mission of patient care and satisfaction through quality food service.
