The Food Service Assistant role at Pilgrim Place is an essential position responsible for supporting the kitchen and dining operations to create enjoyable, nutritious meals for the community's residents. This role is hands-on and involves a variety of tasks including food preparation, assisting cooks and bakers, setting up dining areas, serving meals in collaboration with nursing and caregiving staff, and maintaining cleanliness and safety in the kitchen and dining spaces. As a Food Service Assistant, you will be involved in daily food prep activities such as washing, cutting, and portioning fruits and vegetables, preparing salads, sandwiches, and desserts, as well as assisting with recipe-based cooking and baking tasks. You will help set up dining rooms and meal carts prior to service and work hand-in-hand with caregiving staff to serve and deliver meals, ensuring each resident's dietary needs and preferences are met. Maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards is a key part of the role, including washing dishes with commercial dish machines, cleaning kitchen and dining areas, and properly storing food and supplies. Additionally, you may support special events and catering, providing vital assistance to enhance the community’s social functions.

  • at least 6 months of hands-on food prep experience in a professional kitchen
  • experience working in both kitchen prep and dining/service areas
  • ability to follow recipes, instructions, and safety guidelines accurately
  • professional, dependable, and respectful of resident privacy and confidentiality
  • reliable attendance and punctuality for scheduled shifts

Job Qualifications

  • senior living or healthcare experience is a plus

Job Duties

  • prepare food by washing, cutting, and portioning fruits and vegetables, making salads, sandwiches, and desserts
