Job Description

The hiring establishment is a healthcare facility that operates a comprehensive food service department dedicated to supporting patient care and satisfaction through efficient food handling and service. This institution prioritizes both quality and safety in the preparation and distribution of meals to patients, staff, and visitors. The food service department includes a variety of roles such as cashier, cafeteria server, patient trayline worker, porter/dishwasher, and relief personnel, all crucial for maintaining smooth operations within this critical area of the healthcare setting. This organization is committed to fostering a team-oriented environment where every food service employee plays an integral role in delivering excellent customer service and ensuring compliance with all health regulations and operational standards.

The role of Food Service Worker is vital within this healthcare facility. This position covers various functions including, but not limited to, cashier duties, cafeteria serving, patient meal tray assembly, dishwashing, porter services, and providing relief support as needed. The employee in this role is expected to perform their duties efficiently, accurately, and with a strong customer focus. Operating under the supervision of the Food Service Supervisor, this role involves multitasking and flexibility, with responsibilities changing depending on the day-to-day demands of the department.

A typical day may involve working along the patient trayline, ensuring meals are accurately prepared and delivered timely, handling cash transactions with accuracy at the cafeteria cash register, or maintaining cleanliness and sanitation through porter and dishwasher tasks. Adherence to health and safety standards is paramount, including proper food storage, handling, and disposal, as well as the careful use of cleaning chemicals. Employees must also communicate effectively, take messages professionally, follow detailed instructions, and work collaboratively with team members. The role requires individuals to be punctual, reliable, and able to manage their time to support the overall efficiency of the department.

Physical requirements of this job include frequent heavy lifting of items up to 50 pounds and occasional lifting or moving of objects weighing up to 150 pounds, alongside repetitive physical activities such as bending, walking, and standing for extended periods. Candidates must be willing to comply with hygiene standards including facial grooming or use of beard guards. No supervisory responsibilities are associated with this role, and the position requires at minimum a high school diploma or GED. Prior experience in food services or a related field is preferred but not mandatory, as training is typically provided.

Overall, the Food Service Worker position offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic, purposeful environment, contributing directly to the well-being of patients and the smooth running of the healthcare facility’s food service operations. This role is well suited for individuals seeking steady, hands-on work with immediate impact, who have excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and a passion for serving others.
