Job Description

The Florida Department of Veterans' Affairs is a state government agency dedicated to serving veterans and their families by providing a range of support services, including healthcare, benefits assistance, and long-term care. Among its pivotal establishments is the Ardie R. Copas State Veterans' Nursing Home located in Port Saint Lucie, Saint Lucie County, Florida. This facility is committed to offering high-quality care and support to veterans through its comprehensive nursing and rehabilitation programs. As part of its mission to improve the lives of veterans, the facility ensures a safe, nurturing, and well-managed environment, promoting the dignity and well-being of its residents. The Florida Department of Veterans' Affairs exemplifies an organization that values integrity, respect, and excellence in public service.

The role of Food Service Administrator (FSA) - also referred to as Dietary Supervisor - at the Ardie R. Copas State Veterans' Nursing Home presents a unique opportunity for individuals seeking a dedicated leadership position in healthcare food services. This position is classified under the Selected Exempt Service (SES) with an annual salary of $38,641.98, paid bi-weekly at $1,486.23. The Food Service Administrator will operate under the supervision of the Food Service Director and be responsible for the management and oversight of the day-to-day food service operations at the nursing home. This includes ensuring compliance with VA, state, and federal regulations regarding food preparation, sanitation, and staff management.

The FSA will play a crucial role in maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness, sanitation, and food safety in all areas of the kitchen and food service lines. This includes overseeing food preparation, serving, storage, and kitchen equipment care. The role requires hands-on responsibility for meal production, supervising kitchen staff, assigning duties, and ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and effectively. Training and motivating staff to achieve optimal food quality and quantity are vital responsibilities of the position. The administrator will also handle purchasing requests for food, cleaning supplies, utensils, and paper products, maintaining kitchen inventory, and verifying shipments. Additionally, the FSA collaborates closely with the Consultant Dietician and Food Service Director to meet the nutritional needs of residents.

The role requires a strong leader capable of working long 10-hour shifts, including weekends and holidays, and someone able to lift up to 50 pounds. Experience in commercial or cafeteria-style cooking is essential, as well as basic computer skills and successful completion of a comprehensive employment screening process including background investigation and drug testing. Preference is given to candidates with experience in long-term care facilities and supervisory roles. The position offers an excellent retirement package, optional deferred compensation plans, and health, vision, dental, disability, and supplemental insurance benefits at reasonable premiums. Additional benefits include paid vacation, sick leave, nine paid holidays, a personal day, and tuition waivers for state universities and community colleges, supporting employee growth and development.
