Job Description
Ellis Park is a renowned venue specializing in live thoroughbred horse racing, primarily active during the summer season. Located in Kentucky, Ellis Park embodies a rich history of horse racing and has evolved into a vibrant entertainment destination offering much more than just races. For those passionate about betting and horse racing, the park provides simulcast wagering opportunities throughout the year, coupled with a variety of 300 Historical Horse Racing (HHR) machines that cater to gaming enthusiasts. Patrons can also enjoy convenient sports betting options, making Ellis Park a comprehensive location for wagering fans. Beyond the thrill of betting and racing, the venue offers diverse dining options including The Pea Patch Deli and Dade Park Grill, ensuring guests enjoy savory meals and refreshments while watching live events or participating in other entertainment activities.
In line with its commitment to providing excellent customer service and a vibrant guest experience, Ellis Park is currently seeking to fill the position of Food Runner. This role is pivotal in supporting daily operations across multiple venues on site by ensuring that product stocks are maintained and readily available to meet customer demands. As a food runner at Ellis Park, your responsibilities will extend beyond just food transportation — you will be integral in assisting cashiers, cooks, bartenders, servers, and management with routine maintenance and cleaning demands, contributing to the smooth and efficient functioning of the dining and service areas.
The role requires a team member who operates with a friendly demeanor, capable of effectively communicating special menu items or promotions to customers, and maintaining cleanliness standards across beverage and dining areas. You will also be responsible for ensuring that all product displays are appropriately stocked, rotated to maintain freshness, and organized to promote specific brands and products aiming to boost sales. This includes regular maintenance tasks such as mopping floors, wiping countertops, and cleaning food prep zones while working urgently to minimize customer wait times and enhance overall service speed.
Working at Ellis Park offers a dynamic and engaging environment where safety, sanitation, and customer satisfaction are prioritized. The position demands a strong focus on hygiene and compliance with Food Systems Food Safety and Sanitation guidelines, ensuring a safe experience for all guests and staff. Candidates should be able to follow directions independently, work at a fast pace, and be proactive in carrying out additional duties as assigned by management.
The Food Runner role at Ellis Park requires physical stamina and agility, as tasks involve standing for extended periods, repetitive hand use, bending, lifting, and teamwork for heavier items. The job environment includes both indoor and outdoor settings, with exposure to varying temperature conditions. Attendance must be reliable including availability on weekdays, weekends, and holidays. Importantly, candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a valid license issued by the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission (KHRC), underlining the specialized nature of working within a regulated horse racing venue.
Ellis Park values diversity and ensures equal employment opportunity for all applicants regardless of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, or disability. The role is designed for energetic individuals who thrive in fast-paced, customer-centric settings and are looking to be part of a storied institution that combines sporting excitement with quality entertainment and dining experiences.
