We are actively seeking an experienced and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Food Runner in the MKT Restaurant at Four Seasons Hotel San Francisco. This is a union, non-management position with a competitive hourly rate of $29.96. The Food Runner supports the Food Server by ensuring that guests receive an expertly served dining experience, with all dishes correctly prepared and presented. This role requires attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to anticipate and fulfill guest needs efficiently. Responsibilities include conveying accurate guest orders to the kitchen, ensuring timely delivery of food items that meet quality standards, and interacting with guests to explain menu selections with enthusiasm and knowledge.

As a Food Runner, you will play a crucial role in maintaining seamless food service operations. It is essential to have a solid understanding of food and beverage items, including their origins, taste profiles, and preparation techniques, to communicate effectively with guests and enhance their dining experience. Coordination with kitchen staff to monitor order completion and presentation is a core function of this role. Additionally, you will be responsible for managing guest satisfaction by responding promptly to special requests and addressing any concerns. The position also involves processing payments accurately, supporting side work tasks, and ensuring that dining environments are clean, organized, and inviting.

Job Requirements

  • high school education or equivalent experience required
  • minimum one year food service or related work in an upscale restaurant environment
  • ability to accurately process cash and credit card transactions
  • ability to cope with stress and work in a high volume operation
  • reading writing and oral proficiency in the English language
  • ability to work a flexible schedule including days nights weekends and holidays

Job Duties

  • describe the selection of food and beverage menu items to guests by offering interesting and vivid descriptions of each item's origin taste and preparation methods
  • communicate guest orders including any special needs or requests to the kitchen using the hotel's point-of-sales system
  • coordinate food timings
  • check completed kitchen orders with the guest's original order
  • assist in transporting items to the guest table in a timely manner to ensure proper food quality
  • anticipate guest needs ascertain satisfaction and offer suggestions and respond urgently and appropriately to guest concerns and requests
  • properly and accurately close guest checks
  • process cash and credit card payments
  • properly settle voided checks or complimentary meals
  • breakdown clean and set-up of tables buffets and food stations
  • ensure proper completion of daily side work
