Job Description

We are currently seeking skilled EXPOS/FOOD RUNNERS to join the Duke's Malibu team. This is an hourly position with a starting rate of $17.27 per hour plus tips, resulting in a combined compensation of approximately $22 to $28 per hour. We are specifically looking for candidates with availability during weeknights and weekends, with a minimum commitment of three days per week. Other scheduling availabilities will be considered upon application and are subject to review. This role is integral to the restaurant's service flow, acting as the vital link between the kitchen and the dining room to ensure food is delivered promptly, correctly prepared, and presented beautifully to guests.

The EXPOS/FOOD RUNNER will assist servers in delivering the highest level of quality and service to all guests. Responsibilities include preparing the restaurant for dining service, ensuring each plated dish is neat, properly garnished, and ready for presentation before leaving the kitchen. The role requires welcoming guests and coworkers warmly and professionally and handling the food delivery within appropriate time limits, ensuring hot items are served hot and cold items cold. Additionally, they will provide detailed descriptions of each food item at the point of delivery, fulfilling guest requests, and managing any concerns with professionalism and urgency. Maintaining cleanliness, stocking supplies, checking food availability, and adhering to food safety and hygiene protocols are also crucial to the EXPOS/FOOD RUNNER role.

This position requires dependable individuals who arrive on time and comply with all policies related to attendance and scheduling. Safety is a top priority; thus, candidates must work safely, report hazards promptly, and comply with all food safety guidelines, including hand hygiene and proper handling techniques. While no prior experience is required, it is preferred, and new hires must earn a California Food Handler Certificate within the first 30 days of employment, with training provided if necessary. Candidates must be at least 16 years old and have reliable transportation to the workplace. The ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic team environment is essential, as is maintaining a friendly, neat, and professional demeanor at all times.

Job Requirements

  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • US work authorization required
  • Reliable transportation required
  • California Food Handler Certificate must be obtained within 30 days from hire date
  • Must take and pass all training tests 90% or higher
  • No previous experience required but preferred

Job Duties

  • Assist in preparing restaurant for dining service
  • Greet all guests and co-workers in a warm, personal, friendly manner
  • Check that each plated is wiped and correctly garnished prior to leaving kitchen
  • Deliver food items to guests’ tables as ordered and within the appropriate time limits, describing each food item when placing them in front of the guests
  • Check for proper condiments and utensils when approaching table to deliver food
  • Assist guests with any requests or concerns and take action to correct any problems
  • Follow T S protocol and inform manager on duty for all noted guest allergies
  • Assist Service Team as needed by removing dishes and glasses from tables or counters throughout guests’ meal
  • Keep clean kitchen pass out and Runner stations, regularly checking floor for debris
  • Stock service areas with supplies such as plates, utensils, condiments, and to go items throughout service period
  • Maintain awareness of current availability of food items throughout service period and communicate effectively with management and service team
  • Take extra care to maintain the highest standard of cleanliness in each duty performed
  • Must be dependable, report to work as scheduled and on time, and follow all policies regarding scheduling and attendance
  • Work in a safe manner and report any safety concerns
  • Follow food safety program guidelines of handwashing, bare hands, hygiene and health
