Job Description

HOUSEpitality Restaurants is a distinguished restaurant group that operates a variety of culinary establishments, including Boathouse, Casa del Barco, Island Shrimp Co., and Can Can Brasserie—all located in and around Richmond, VA. Known collectively as The HOUSEpitality Family, this group prides itself on delivering exceptional dining experiences characterized by great views, unique character, and delicious food. Each venue brings its own flavor and atmosphere, contributing to a diverse portfolio that appeals to a wide community of guests. HOUSEpitality Restaurants emphasizes a culture where celebrating life is done one memorable moment at a time, ensuring that every guest leaves satisfied and eager to return.

The role on offer within HOUSEpitality Restaurants is a dynamic Support position encompassing responsibilities traditionally divided between food runner/busser and barback roles. This dual capacity is ideal for individuals who enjoy an active, fast-paced environment and want to contribute directly to the smooth operation of both the dining room and bar. The Support team is integral to the guest experience, facilitating the timely delivery of food orders, maintaining clean and welcoming areas for future patrons, and ensuring that the bar is fully stocked and prepared for service. Those chosen for this role must balance excellent communication skills with a positive, teamwork-oriented mindset. Flexible in-store training is provided, along with paid time off (PTO) accrual beginning from the first day of employment, underscoring the company’s commitment to employee development and well-being.

In the food runner/busser capacity, the person will be responsible for setting tables with care, promptly serving dishes to guests, and clearing used items efficiently to maintain flow and cleanliness in the dining area. Accuracy and speed in delivering orders from the kitchen to the customer are paramount. For barbacks, the duties extend to stocking liquors, refilling garnishes, maintaining glassware inventory, operating dishwashing equipment, and attending to customer requests when needed. The entire Support team acts as a crucial communication link between the Front of House and Back of House, ensuring that customer feedback and requests are relayed promptly and accurately to servers and bartenders.

Working at HOUSEpitality means joining a value-driven business that upholds integrity, knowledge, empowerment, and innovation as its guiding principles. Employees enjoy numerous benefits such as discounted 50% meals at all locations, flexible scheduling tailored to individual needs, weekly pay via direct deposit, and a comprehensive PTO program. Full-time employees gain access to medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as short-term disability and basic life insurance coverage. Additional perks include a tuition reimbursement program to support personal and professional growth and a strong internal promotion culture encapsulated by the company’s tagline, "We Grow Our Own." This workplace culture fosters not only career advancement but also a sense of belonging and pride among employees. This role demands individuals who are positive, reliable, able to perform under pressure, and committed to delivering memorable service in a fast-paced restaurant environment.
