Job Description

Next is a renowned fine dining establishment known for its innovative and evolving pre-fixe menu that undergoes a creative overhaul every four months. Each new menu invites diners to explore different culinary regions, themes, or moments in time, showcasing a unique gastronomic experience. For example, the Winter 2019 Silk & Spice menu highlighted the spices and flavors along the historic trade routes of Asia, Northeast Africa, and Europe. Established as one of the most prestigious dining venues in the United States, Next was awarded a Michelin Star and named the Best New Restaurant in the U.S. by the James Beard Foundation in 2012. This reputation is built on a commitment to excellence, creativity, and exceptional hospitality.

Next is currently seeking a full-time Food Runner to join its dynamic team. This role is vital in ensuring that every dish prepared in the kitchen reaches the guest promptly and is presented beautifully. Working as a Food Runner means being at the heart of the dining room’s operation, acting as the critical link between the kitchen and the guests. This position requires a full-time commitment of 40 plus hours per week, with availability required from Wednesday through Sunday to accommodate the restaurant’s busy schedule.

The Food Runner at Next will be responsible for maintaining comprehensive knowledge of the evolving menus, including ingredients and culinary techniques used in each dish. This knowledge allows the Food Runner to communicate effectively with guests and staff alike, enhancing the overall dining experience. Additionally, the role requires attentiveness to special requests, guest dietary restrictions, and a detailed awareness of seating arrangements and reservations, particularly for people of note. Candidates will need to thrive in a fast-paced, chef-driven environment, displaying a strong attention to detail and excellent communication skills.

The work environment is high pressure but rewarding, providing ample opportunities for teamwork and professional growth within a prestigious culinary setting. Physical stamina is essential as the role requires standing and moving for extended periods and handling trays with food and drink, as well as climbing stairs multiple times during a shift.

This position offers a competitive hourly wage between $21.50 and $22.00. Full-time employees gain access to extensive benefits including medical, vision, dental, and life insurance starting from the first month of employment, with the company contributing 50% toward single HMO premiums for the first two years and 100% thereafter. Additional benefits are paid time off, a 401(k) plan with up to 4% company match on deferred earnings, transit discounts, employee dining discounts, and a referral bonus program. Next embraces diversity and is an equal opportunity employer, committed to creating an inclusive workplace where all employees feel valued and respected.
