The Food Runner position at Dust Bowl is a key role within the kitchen and front-of-house operations. This part-time variable-hour role requires flexibility in shifts, including days, evenings, and weekends, aligning with the operational needs of the establishment. The Food Runner is responsible for ensuring all meals meet Dust Bowl's standards for quality, portion size, and presentation. A critical aspect of the job is organizing and expediting the delivery of food orders, running meals to tables, and managing coordination between the kitchen and front-of-house staff. This includes communicating dish priorities, managing ticket times, and overseeing synchronization between line cooks, servers, and bartenders.
Additionally, the Food Runner manages Beer Garden orders for guest pick up, interacts with guests to ensure satisfaction, and supports the kitchen team by preparing sauces, assisting cooks, and maintaining cleanliness and station efficiency. The role also involves operating POS systems and managing orders with special requests or upcharges. Given the nature of the job, the Food Runner needs strong organizational skills, clear and confident communication abilities, and the capacity to multitask in a fast-paced environment. Physical demands include standing and walking for extended periods and lifting up to 50 pounds, making physical stamina essential.

Job Requirements
- Must possess a Food Handlers certificate
- Complete and maintain Dust Bowl’s Harassment Prevention and Workplace Violence Prevention trainings
- Ability to reach, bend, stoop continuously
- Ability to lift frequently up to 50 pounds
- Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods up to 8 hours
- Specific vision abilities including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
- Must be able to speak and hear
- Flexibility to work variable hours including days, evenings, and weekends
- Minimum 2 years of relevant kitchen or FOH experience
- Minimum 6 months of similar role experience
Job Qualifications
- Certified Food Safety Certificate
- Minimum 2 years of experience in kitchen preparation and/or cooking or 2 years experience in FOH bussing or serving
- Minimum 6 months of experience in a similar capacity (Food Expo)
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Strong organization skills
- Proven ability to multitask and communicate with various employees simultaneously
- Clear, respectful, and confident communication with managers, kitchen, guests, taproom staff, and personnel
Job Duties
- Set up, prep, stock, rotate, and re-stock stations for opening service
- Prepare a variety of sauces according to prep lists, delegate by priority
- Communicate with supervisors, line cooks, and servers when stock and/or items are running low
- Finish all take-out orders
- Assist cooks and kitchen staff with various tasks as needed and provide cooks with items they may need
- Provide servers, bartenders, and guests with needed condiments, salads, sides, etc.
- Maintain cleanliness and efficiency in assigned areas during service
- Operate POS for takeout and Beer Garden orders
- Interact with guests in a professional and friendly manner
- Help pre-bus tables and take bus tubs back to the dish pit
- Verify all guest needs are met with every table touch and communicate all needs to server/bartender that cannot be done personally
- Manage POS/KDS screens, upcharges, and special request instructions with FOH and BOH
- Shut down, clean, and sanitize stations
- Perform any other tasks assigned by kitchen leads and/or Managers
