Hallie Q. Brown Community Center, Inc., founded in 1929, is a renowned African American nonprofit social services agency dedicated to enriching the lives of individuals across all ages, abilities, races, cultures, and economic levels within the Summit-University neighborhood and the broader Twin Cities area. With a rich history spanning nearly a century, Hallie Q. Brown has consistently committed itself to improving quality of life by providing essential human services, promoting African American heritage, and encouraging personal growth, self-sufficiency, and community leadership development. This organization plays a pivotal role in fostering an inclusive and supportive environment where community members can thrive and access critical resources.

Over the years, Hallie Q. Brown Community Center has evolved from a singular human services provider into a bustling multi-service hub and serves as the administrative body for the Martin Luther King Service Center. This center hosts a diverse array of partners offering specialized services including Project Cheer, Prepare + Prosper, the St. Paul Branch of the NAACP, the African American Leadership Council, and the nationally acclaimed Penumbra Theatre Company. This dynamic mix illustrates the organization’s deep commitment to creating collaborative partnerships that focus on the unique needs of the Summit-University community. Employees at Hallie Q. Brown benefit from a competitive salary structure—with starting wages around $20 per hour depending on qualifications and experience—and comprehensive benefits that support both professional growth and personal well-being.

Joining Hallie Q. This role is essential in maintaining the flow of donated food supplies from grocery partners, distribution centers, and other organizations to the community. The Food Rescue Driver not only transports food but also plays a vital role in building professional relationships with partner organizations, ensuring accurate documentation of pickups and deliveries, and communicating effectively with supervisors to address any logistical concerns.

Additionally, the Food Rescue Driver contributes significantly to the operations of the food shelf by maintaining cleanliness, organizing inventory, packing food orders, restocking shelves responsibly, and assisting with waste management and recycling tasks. This position requires a hands-on approach to support neighbors with respect and professionalism, adhering strictly to food safety guidelines and organizational policies. The role demands physical ability to manage tasks such as lifting objects weighing up to 50 pounds and working in various weather conditions, as well as flexibility in managing errand runs and special projects as assigned.

Hallie Q. Brown Community Center embraces diversity and inclusivity, making it a workplace where every employee's unique perspective is valued. The organization welcomes applicants from varied backgrounds and identities, including but not limited to BIPOC, Indigenous peoples, LGBTQI+, individuals with disabilities, veterans, and diverse age groups. The Center provides a supportive environment fostering equitable opportunities, including discounted tuition programs through St. Mary’s University, professional development, and career advancement pathways. The role’s schedule is Monday and Tuesday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Wednesday from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., and Thursday and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., offering a balanced workweek commitment that supports work-life harmony.

By joining Hallie Q. Brown as a Food Rescue Driver, you become part of a vital mission that drives social change and community well-being through essential service delivery, cultural enrichment, and leadership cultivation.
