The Food Production Maintenance Technician Level III position at Newport Meat & Seafood plays a critical role in supporting the operations team by enhancing the reliability and efficiency of production equipment throughout the facility. This role requires a highly skilled technician responsible for installing, moving, repairing, and performing preventive maintenance on a diverse range of production and process utility equipment. Beyond technical maintenance tasks, the role emphasizes safety compliance, continuous improvement initiatives, and leadership in maintenance activities. The technician assists in executing 5S and Lean manufacturing activities designed to improve material handling, production line configuration, and workplace safety. The ideal candidate will have extensive maintenance experience in a manufacturing setting, preferably within the food processing industry, and be familiar with USDA, FDA, and SQF policies and procedures.
The Maintenance Technician Level III must champion company and industry standard safety policies, including OSHA, NEC, NFPA, USDA, and FDA regulations, ensuring that all work environments and practices meet stringent safety criteria. Responsibilities include diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment issues, as well as performing root cause analysis and failure mode analysis to improve equipment reliability. This technician also leads equipment rebuilds, line moves, calibrations, and emergency repairs while collaborating with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical documents such as work orders, manuals, assembly diagrams, electrical schematics, and P&ID diagrams is expected. Moreover, the role requires maintaining accurate logs and records within a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to track maintenance activities and equipment performance metrics.
Working hours involve starting at 7:00 AM and continuing until the job is completed, with availability required five days a week Monday through Saturday. This schedule supports the dynamic environment of food production, ensuring maintenance tasks are aligned with operational needs. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum five years of experience in industrial maintenance
- Knowledge of food safety regulations including USDA and FDA requirements
- Proficiency in using lockout tagout and safety procedures
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents such as electrical schematics and P&ID diagrams
- Availability to work five days per week including Monday through Saturday
- Capable of working early shift starting at 7 AM
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Good communication and teamwork abilities
- Physical capability to perform maintenance tasks including lifting and standing for extended periods
Job Qualifications
- Five plus years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing setting
- Experience using lockout tagout, job hazard analysis, hot work permits, confined space procedures
- Experience working in a food processing environment with knowledge of USDA, FDA, and SQF policies
- One year experience in a leadership role preferred
- Experience with condition diagnostic techniques including vibration analysis, oil analysis, ultrasonic testing, and thermographic testing preferred
Job Duties

- Diagnose and repair production and process utility equipment deficiencies and failures including mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems
- Use continuous improvement tools and methods including root cause analysis and failure mode analysis to improve equipment reliability
- Champion and lead production equipment rebuilds, line moves, installations, setups, and calibrations
- Read and interpret equipment work orders, manuals, assembly diagrams, electrical schematics, and P&ID diagrams to perform maintenance
- Manage assigned planned work, unplanned failures, and work orders in a high-paced work environment
- Accurately log work orders in CMMS to track maintenance and equipment performance metrics
