The role of the line cook within our food truck is critical to our daily operations and overall success. A line cook will be tasked with preparing their station before the start of each shift, ensuring all supplies are ready and readily accessible. This preparation sometimes involves activities in a commercial kitchen, including prepping ingredients before they are loaded onto the truck, or stocking the food truck itself. The line cook plays a key role in daily food preparation, which includes chopping vegetables, butchering meats, crafting sauces, and preparing ingredients necessary for both routine service and special event menus. When orders come through during shifts, the line cook must skillfully prepare food items on time, collaborating closely with fellow cooks and following the direction of the food truck manager to ensure that every meal is served at the optimal temperature and ready to eat. After each shift, the line cook is responsible for thorough cleaning of their station and contributing to the overall cleanliness of the food truck, washing utensils, pots, pans, and cooking surfaces, handling leftover food responsibly, and properly storing or disposing of items. Depending on the availability of storage, the line cook may also manage inventory duties such as unloading deliveries, stocking refrigerators or pantries, and reporting inventory levels. This full lifecycle of food preparation and service is vital for maintaining the efficiency and reputation of our food truck.

Job Requirements

  • high school diploma or equivalent
  • prior cooking or food preparation experience preferred
  • ability to work flexible hours including weekends and evenings
  • basic math and communication skills
  • must be reliable and punctual
  • capable of standing for extended periods
  • ability to follow health and safety regulations

Job Duties

  • set up the station before shifts including preparing supplies and stocking
  • prep food daily including chopping vegetables, butchering meat, and making sauces
  • cook food items as ordered, coordinating with other cooks and following manager instructions
  • clean the station and assist with overall food truck clean up including washing utensils and disposing of waste
  • handle leftovers by disposing, storing, or returning to inventory
  • stock inventory including unloading deliveries and organizing food storage
