The Food Service Specialist is responsible for upholding high standards of quality, hygiene, health, and safety within campus dining services. Reporting directly to the Sous Chef at the Little Rock South location, this specialist will undertake a range of duties essential to the effective operation of the food service facilities. These duties include greeting and assisting customers, taking orders, managing the cash register, handling transactions accurately, and ensuring proper balance of the cash drawer at the end of the day. The specialist will also follow established procedures for both opening and closing the bistro service and equipment, maintain cleanliness and organization of the front of house areas, including food service stations, trash, and work stations.

Inventory management is a critical component of the role. The Food Service Specialist will stock and maintain beverage supplies, cups, condiments, utensils, salad bars, grab-and-go items, pizza stations, and other food service stations. They are also tasked with checking ingredient and paper good stock levels and assisting with inventory maintenance. Ensuring that all food served is of high quality, prepared according to recipes, and efficiently expedited to service outlets is a core responsibility. The specialist must maintain a positive attitude, demonstrate strong teamwork, and show a high level of commitment to their duties and the college's mission. Furthermore, the role involves supporting various areas of the dining service operation including restaurant floors, catering rooms, loading docks, and external restaurant areas.

Job Duties

  • Available Monday-Friday 6:30am-3:00pm with flexibility to work occasional night and weekend shifts to accommodate special events
  • Maintain high standards of quality control, hygiene, and health and safety
  • Greet and assist customers, take orders and manage the cash register, handling cash and credit card transactions accurately, ensuring the cash drawer is balanced at the end of the day
  • Follow open and closing procedures for bistro service set-up and equipment
  • Maintain a clean and orderly front of house, including food service stations, trash and work stations
  • Stock and maintain service levels of beverages, cups, condiments and utensils
  • Stock and maintain salad bar, grab and go, pizza station and other food stations as assigned
  • Check stock levels for ingredients and paper goods and assist with inventory maintenance
  • Ensure all food served is of high quality, properly prepared according to recipe and is expedited to all outlets in a smooth and efficient manner
  • Maintain a positive attitude in the execution of duties and display a high level of commitment to the team and to the job
  • Perform other duties as assigned to include all areas of the restaurants, catering rooms, loading dock area, exterior of restaurant, etc.
  • Must possess professional verbal and written communication skills, be organized and detail oriented, be flexible and adapt to change
