The position available at UA-PTC is for a Food Service Specialist within the Catering Department, particularly at the South Paw Cafe located at the Little Rock South campus. This full-time, regular staff role offers an annual salary of $31,200 and involves a Monday-Friday schedule from 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with occasional flexibility required to work night or weekend shifts for special events. The Food Service Specialist is tasked with supporting the campus dining services under the supervision of the Sous Chef at the Little Rock South location.
This role is vital to maintaining high standards in food quality, hygiene, and safety while delivering excellent customer service. The successful candidate will be responsible for greeting and assisting customers, managing orders and cash register operations, and ensuring accurate handling of cash and credit transactions. They will follow set procedures for opening and closing the Bistro service, maintain cleanliness and organization of the front-of-house and food service stations, and support inventory management by checking stock levels of ingredients and supplies.
This position requires physical activity including standing, walking, lifting, and repetitive motions, demanding stamina and adaptability. The Food Service Specialist will also assist in maintaining service levels for beverages, condiments, and utensils, as well as ensuring food is prepared according to established recipes and delivered efficiently. A positive attitude, strong communication skills, and team-oriented mindset are essential to excel in this dynamic environment.
Additional duties include supporting catering services and other restaurant areas as needed, reflecting the position’s versatile and integral role in campus dining operations. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- One-year experience in institutional cooking or related area or Certificate in Basic Food Preparation
- Ability to read, write and follow oral and written instructions and recipes
- Commitment to equal access and equal opportunity principles
- Ability to work Monday-Friday 6:30am-3:00pm with flexibility for night and weekend shifts
- Professional verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to maintain hygiene, health and safety standards
- Physical ability to perform tasks including standing, walking, lifting, stooping and repetitive motions
- Legal authorization to work in the United States
Job Qualifications
- Ability to read, write and follow oral and written instructions and recipes
- One-year experience in institutional cooking or related area or Certificate in Basic Food Preparation from a regionally accredited institution

Job Duties
- Maintain high standards of quality control, hygiene, and health and safety
- Greet and assist customers, take orders and manage cash register including cash and credit card transactions
- Follow open and closing procedures for Bistro service set-up and equipment
- Maintain a clean and orderly front of house including food service stations, trash and work stations
- Stock and maintain service levels of beverages, cups, condiments and utensils
- Stock and maintain salad bar, grab and go, pizza station and other assigned food stations
- Check stock levels for ingredients and paper goods and assist with inventory maintenance
- Ensure all food served is of high quality, prepared according to recipe and expedited efficiently
- Maintain a positive attitude and high commitment to the team and job
- Perform other duties as assigned including restaurants, catering rooms, loading dock and exterior areas
- Possess professional verbal and written communication skills, be organized and detail oriented
