The Food Prep Cook role at Marriott Tacoma Downtown presents an excellent opportunity for individuals who have a passion for culinary arts and enjoy working efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment. This position requires a reliable and skilled food preparation worker who can operate with minimal supervision. Duties include stocking and preparing ingredients such as condiments, vegetables, and proteins, alongside measuring and mixing items needed for various recipes. The position demands a strong adherence to sanitation standards and food safety protocols to maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment. The Food Prep Cook must be proficient in reading recipe directions, labels, and measurements in English and capable of safely utilizing kitchen equipment including sharp knives and various measuring tools. Some physical activity such as lifting, pulling, and bending is involved, requiring stamina and physical health. While previous kitchen experience and a two-year associate degree are preferred, they are not mandatory, providing an opportunity for motivated and dedicated individuals to grow within the role. Job Qualifications
- Have some experience prepping food and the ability to work under the head chef or cook with minor supervision
- Some kitchen experience and associate's degree (AA) or equivalent preferred but not necessary
- Ability to stand on feet for long periods and perform bending, pulling, and lifting of 35-50 pounds
- Flexibility to work weekend hours, holidays, and some extended hours
- Ability to read recipes, meal charts, measuring tools, and labels in English
Job Duties
- Wash, sort, prep, slice, and measure ingredients for recipes using condiments, vegetables, and proteins
- Mix sauces for use in various meals
- Abide by food safety guidelines and implement COVID-19 safety measures in all food prep areas and kitchen stations
- Understand recipe instructions, measurements, meal charts, and labels written in English and use all measuring tools properly
- Maintain a clean and organized prep area and workstation at all times and sanitize equipment after each shift or at closing
- Assist other cooks in the kitchen as needed with preparing simple recipes such as soups, sauce reduction, and brewing coffee and tea
