This position, Food Operations Manager, is situated at a university located in the Richmond, VA area. This role is responsible for directing and leading a team composed of managers and union frontline employees in a busy retail food service setting. With added responsibilities overseeing catering operations, the Food Operations Manager collaborates closely with campus chefs to develop, enhance, and maintain a high-quality food program that meets the diverse tastes and expectations of students, faculty, and staff. In this capacity, the manager ensures a safe working environment while implementing Sodexo's innovative programs and tools to drive client, customer, and employee engagement.

The Food Operations Manager ensures that all operational aspects related to food service are efficiently managed, including inventory control, equipment availability, and staff resources. Additionally, the role involves prioritizing regulatory compliance and adherence to operating standards to meet or exceed health, safety, and quality benchmarks. Strategic planning and execution are also key components, requiring the manager to develop and implement plans and projects with clear objectives, methods, timelines, and budgets that align with both the client's needs and Sodexo's overarching strategic initiatives.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • minimum of 3 years management experience
  • minimum of 3 years work experience in food or culinary services
  • ability to demonstrate strong employee engagement leadership skills
  • culinary production experience
  • knowledge of safety and sanitation compliance
  • strong professional communication skills
  • ability to manage multiple priorities and demonstrate flexibility

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • 3 years work experience in food or culinary services including restaurants, fast food, vending, catering services, institutional services, mall food courts, etc.

Job Duties

  • Establishes a safe work environment
  • utilizes Sodexo tools and programs to develop client, customer, and staff relationships to ensure account retention
  • implements and fully utilizes all Sodexo tools and programs to ensure financial outcomes
  • directs daily operations of food service to ensure employees have appropriate equipment, inventory, and resources, and ensures operating standards and regulatory requirements are met
  • develops and implements plans and projects with defined objectives, methods, timetables, and budgets to support the client and Sodexo's strategic plan
  • ensures adherence to all HR standards for Sodexo, clients, and regulatory agencies
