Food Justice Coordinator

Rafiki Coalition for Health and Wellness is a distinguished nonprofit organization based in San Francisco, dedicated to eliminating health inequities and improving the lives of Black, African American, and marginalized communities in the Bay Area. Services provided include free and low-cost health screenings, HIV prevention and care, mental health counseling, housing and economic support, fitness classes, and nutrition programs. The role of the Food Justice Coordinator is an essential position within Rafiki Coalition, charged with leading and advancing the organization's food justice initiatives and programs focused on equitable food access. This role is critical in connecting community members, partner organizations, volunteers, and staff to enhance culturally responsive and community-driven food systems. The Food Justice Coordinator passionately promotes food justice, food sovereignty, and community wellness by coordinating programs that simultaneously address immediate food needs and foster long-term sustainable solutions. About half of this full-time position’s responsibilities include developing, implementing, and evaluating food justice initiatives such as community food distribution, community gardens, food education, volunteer coordination, outreach, partnership development, and food policy advocacy. The other half focuses on supporting the operations and logistics of Rafiki's Community Food Market, Feeding 5000, and other food access programs.

Through close collaboration with community partners, residents, volunteers, and organizational leadership, the Food Justice Coordinator plays a vital role in promoting wellness and strengthening neighborhood food security. This position supports Rafiki Coalition’s mission to create healthier and more equitable communities by enabling community members to shape their food systems. The role involves strategic leadership, program management, community engagement, partnership development, data tracking, and advocacy work aimed at dismantling systemic food injustices and expanding access to healthy, culturally relevant food. With a salary range of $70,500 to $80,000 annually, principally onsite in San Francisco, the position requires a candidate who embodies commitment to equity, strong organizational skills, and an ability to foster meaningful community relationships. This is an exempt full-time role reporting initially to the Executive Director and eventually to a Director within the organization.
