Job Description

Operating within the Food and Nutrition Services department, the Boise School District is currently seeking a Food and Nutrition Assistant Supervisor, a key position responsible for assisting in the operational planning and direction of the district-wide food service program. This full-time role is classified as classified support staff with a working schedule of 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, 7.5 hours per day and 244 working days per year. The salary range is competitive, starting from $35.65 per hour up to $38.57 per hour depending on verified experience, with a slight increase effective July 1st, 2026. New employees with relevant prior experience may receive credit towards salary advancement steps on the district salary schedule.

The Food and Nutrition Assistant Supervisor role focuses on ensuring efficient and cost-effective delivery of food service that complies with USDA and other federal, state, and local regulations. Essential responsibilities include overseeing food service personnel, assisting with budget preparation, purchasing, hiring, training, and supervising the district's food service activities. The position plays a vital role in the development of nutritional menus and special diets to meet USDA requirements and supports programs such as the National School Lunch, National School Breakfast, Summer Meals Program, and additional meal programs for at-risk students. The employee will assist in enforcing food safety standards and regulations including sanitation practices, requiring certification such as the Certified Food Protection Manager course (ServSafe). Additionally, the role involves participation in annual budget planning, personnel evaluation and training, communication with various stakeholders, and coordination of kitchen design projects associated with new construction or remodeling efforts. The candidate will need a sound knowledge of district operational services, nutritional guidelines, human resource management principles, and proficiency in computer applications including Windows PC operating systems, Microsoft Office and Google applications. Job Duties

  • Assists in the supervision and direction for all District Food Service program services and activities
  • selects, trains, motivates and evaluates District Food Service program personnel
  • plans and coordinates in-service workshops and training programs for food service personnel
  • works with employees to correct performance deficiencies, attendance, compliance issues and workplace injuries
  • assists in the participation of the Food Service Annual Budget
  • ensures adherence of USDA Child Nutrition Programs to Federal, State and local laws and regulations
  • develops menus, including those for students with special dietary needs, in compliance with USDA standards
  • writes bid specifications for the procurement of food, equipment and supplies
  • provides support and assistance to site administrators, parents, students, support staff and food service personnel
  • attends and participates in professional training
  • serves as a liaison for food service with other District departments and outside agencies
  • performs all work duties and activities in accordance with District policies, procedures and safety practices
  • coordinates kitchen design for new construction and remodeling with architect(s) and district representatives
  • provides cut sheets and equipment specifications
  • writes equipment bids
