Job Description
The Tulare County Sheriff's Department is a distinguished law enforcement agency dedicated to ensuring the safety and security of Tulare County and its residents. Beyond food services, the role encompasses supervising laundry operations and maintaining equipment in optimal condition. The manager is expected to coordinate preparation for various shifts and uphold strict policies on hygiene and cleanliness. They will also need to effectively communicate with diverse teams and clients, respecting various beliefs and backgrounds, while adhering to the Tulare County Sheriff’s Department's standards including policies on personal appearance and tattoo visibility.
This position requires a minimum educational background equivalent to a high school diploma or graduation from a food preparation school, coupled with relevant experience including at least two years in large-scale cooking operations and one year in commercial laundry operations. Knowledge of fundamental nutrition principles, kitchen sanitation laws, equipment use, and institutional meal planning is essential. The ability to write clear instructions and follow complex recipes in large quantities is also critical.

Job Requirements
- Completion of the twelfth grade or equivalent
- two years of experience in large scale cooking
- one year of experience in commercial laundry operations
- ability to meet personal appearance standards including no visible tattoos above collar line or below wrist
- ability to pass pre-employment drug and alcohol screening
- ability to undergo background investigation
- ability to comply with employment eligibility verification
- ability to possibly undergo physical examination
Job Qualifications
- Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade
- or equivalent to graduation from a food preparation school
- two years of experience in full-time cooking involving large scale food preparation including menu preparation, quantity calculation and ordering food
- one year of experience in the operations of a commercial laundry
- knowledge of fundamentals of nutrition and dietetics
- knowledge of kitchen sanitation and safety laws and regulations
- knowledge of proper use, care, and security of equipment, machines and utensils
- knowledge of sources and procedures in the ordering and storing of large quantities of food
- knowledge of meal planning and preparation for institutions
- ability to work and communicate effectively with people of various education and socioeconomic backgrounds
- ability to operate contemporary office equipment including computer and keyboard
- ability to cook and bake in large quantities
- ability to write legible instructions, memos and menus
- ability to read, understand, and follow basic recipes including converting recipes for large scale preparation
