Job Description
This opportunity is with the Parks and Recreation department, a city-run entity dedicated to providing safe, engaging, and well-maintained recreational facilities and programs for the community. The department manages several amenities including golf courses, aquatic centers, community centers, and various recreational spaces aimed at improving the quality of life for residents. The team works diligently to ensure excellent service delivery to the public through organized events, maintenance operations, and customer-oriented activities. The department prioritizes safety, efficiency, and community satisfaction in all its functions, striving to offer accessible and enjoyable facilities.
The available role is for a part-time, seasonal position within the department’s food and beverage services at the Westwood Golf Course and Family Aquatic Center. This position offers a starting wage of $9.00 per hour plus tips, with shifts varying from early morning to evening between 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. on any day of the week. The position is designed to accommodate high school and college students by offering flexible scheduling options, including availability for nights, weekends, and holidays. This flexibility ensures a balanced work-life experience while contributing positively to community recreation.
As a food and beverage attendant, the individual will be responsible for providing excellent customer service, handling food and drink orders, preparing meals, and maintaining clean and orderly concession or restaurant areas. The role also includes responsibilities such as collecting payments, using the point-of-sale system, and assisting the manager with daily operations. Employees will need to demonstrate good communication skills, effective decision-making abilities, and reliable attendance. Being a safety-sensitive role, applicants must comply with strict regulations, including testing for marijuana metabolites even if licensed medical marijuana users.
This job emphasizes the importance of teamwork, safety awareness, and the ability to interact positively with people of all ages while managing multiple operational tasks efficiently. Employees will receive training to fulfill their duties effectively and must maintain relevant certifications including a cash handling certification, food handler’s permit, and alcohol serving license. Candidates must also undergo a background check, physical examination, and drug screening to ensure compliance with department standards.
This seasonal position is ideal for individuals looking to gain experience in a commercial kitchen or restaurant environment while serving the community in a dynamic, supportive setting. The combination of customer service, operational tasks, and community engagement makes this role an excellent entry-level opportunity within municipal recreational services, providing valuable work experience in food service and public interaction.
