The role of the Prep Cook at Hornblower Group offers a unique opportunity for individuals eager to develop their culinary skills within a dynamic and prestigious organization. This position primarily involves preparing food for events by performing tasks such as cutting, chopping, peeling, and plating food for buffet presentations. The Prep Cook will play a critical role in maintaining safe and sanitary food preparation areas, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards throughout the galley environment. Additional responsibilities include assisting with delivery processing, organizing and stocking products properly, and monitoring workstations to guarantee cleanliness and efficiency. This position serves as an excellent foundation to learn essential cooking techniques and offers pathways for progression into other culinary roles within the company. The position embraces teamwork and communication, requiring the ability to work cohesively with an English-speaking crew. Job Requirements

  • 1 to 2 years kitchen prep experience
  • Knowledge of health sanitation codes
  • California Food Handlers certificate
  • Able to obtain TWIC and MMC certification
  • Must be able to understand and communicate with English speaking crew
  • All crew members must maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance
  • Ability to bend, rotate and reach frequently
  • Ascend and descend stairs or ladders safely
  • Ability to maneuver through, in and around small and or confined areas within the vessel
  • Must be able to maintain both static and dynamic standing balance
  • Must be capable of performing emergency duties as listed in the vessel’s station bill

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Assist in stocking products from deliveries, maintaining proper rotation and storage
  • Follow food production guidelines, preparing food in the allotted time frame
  • Maintain safe and sanitary food standards
  • Label, date and initial all prepared and stored food products
  • Monitor all work areas consistently throughout shift
  • Clean and organize food and pan storage daily
  • Report any tools or equipment in need of repair or replacement
  • Perform additional job duties as assigned
