The Food & Beverage Manager/Sommelier position at Baccarat Hotel New York is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the restaurant and bar operations, managing a team of 40-plus employees to deliver impeccable service and maintain operational excellence. This management role entails supervising staff within the department by applying company policies and applicable laws, including responsibilities such as interviewing, hiring, training, assigning duties, appraising performance, and resolving any employee complaints or problems. The manager will also be responsible for planning schedules, managing inventory, controlling costs related to food, beverage, and labor, and ensuring compliance with safety and emergency procedures. A unique aspect of this role is the focus on the wine program, including collaboration with chefs to pair wines and spirits perfectly with the menu, curating and sourcing the restaurant's wine list, and educating front-of-house staff on wine knowledge and service techniques.
This position offers a competitive salary in the range of $85,000 to $90,000 annually, with additional incentive opportunities through a bonus program linked to achieving budgeted wine sales performance. Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
- Three years food and beverage management in a luxury hotel setting
- Proven experience supervising a large team of 40 or more employees
- Strong knowledge of wine, spirits, and beverage programs
- Experience with inventory management and cost control
- Ability to train, develop, and evaluate staff
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of local labor laws and union-related work environments
- Ability to maintain composure and handle problem-solving in a fast-paced, high-pressure setting
Job Qualifications
- Three years food and beverage management in luxury world class hotel
- Three years technical food and beverage experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Previous employee management in Local 6 union environment
- Primary quality detailed service ethic
- Strong interpersonal staff and guest relations
- Team minded approach to fellow workers
- Ability to apply commons sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
