Job Description

Avolta, including Dufry, HMSHost Corporation, Hudson, and their affiliated brands, is a leading global company specializing in travel retail and food and beverage (F&B) management. Committed to delivering exceptional customer experiences across various prestigious locations, the company operates numerous points-of-sale and restaurant establishments in major markets such as Manhattan and New York City. Avolta takes pride in fostering inclusive work environments that encourage growth, development, and meaningful rewards for its employees. The company is recognized for its commitment to equal opportunity employment, adhering to anti-discrimination laws to ensure a diverse workforce where every individual is valued and respected regardless of race, gender, age, or other protected characteristics.

The General Manager I (GM) position at Port Authority Bus Terminal is a pivotal leadership role within Avolta’s F&B operations. This role involves the comprehensive management of a quick-service restaurant (QSR) or a small cluster of restaurants or points-of-sale located near each other with annual sales typically up to $5 million. The GM oversees daily operations, ensuring the establishments maintain high standards of cleanliness, staffing, service quality, and financial performance. The GM uses sound judgment and leadership skills to make decisions that impact the success of the restaurant(s), overseeing everything from staffing, training, and customer satisfaction to financial integrity including budget management and P&L adherence.

The role demands a hands-on leader who embraces a dynamic and sometimes unpredictable work schedule, including opening, closing, and busy shifts, to closely monitor operational activities and support the team effectively. The GM is responsible for sustaining the brand standards, ensuring compliance with health, safety, and sanitation regulations, and maintaining productive relationships with vendors, landlords, brand partners, and the broader stakeholder network. With an advertised salary range between $66,300 and $70,367, this exempt position reports to the Director of Operations or a similar area leader and carries significant responsibility for driving revenue, controlling costs, and delivering exceptional guest experiences.

Avolta offers a comprehensive benefits package to its employees, including health, dental, and vision insurance; generous paid time off including vacation, flex, and sick days; holiday pay; a 401(k) retirement plan; company-paid life insurance; tuition reimbursement; employee discounts across all company brands; an employee assistance program; training and career growth opportunities; and a referral program. These benefits underscore the company’s commitment to employee well-being and professional development.

A candidate for this role should possess a blend of educational background and leadership experience totaling over four years, including at least two years in a supervisory capacity and between four to six years in F&B operations. A bachelor’s degree may substitute for part of this experience, especially when paired with specialized training or food service management credentials. Expertise in operational management, technological proficiency with POS and scheduling systems, and strong communication skills are essential. The ideal GM embodies business acumen, a passion for building positive teams, and the capability to handle complex operational challenges within a fast-paced environment. This is an opportunity for an accomplished leader poised to make a significant impact within a leading company in the travel retail and food service industry.
