The position of Galley (Kitchen) Supervisor is a critical role within Hornblower Group, particularly in the City Experiences division. This role is primarily focused on managing back-of-house kitchen operations aboard cruise vessels, ensuring that every cruise maintains high standards for quality, service, guest satisfaction, and sanitation while optimizing profitability. As a Galley Supervisor, you will serve as the on-duty kitchen manager for cruises, overseeing kitchen crew members to ensure adherence to all company standards and operational procedures. This includes maintaining effective communication with back-of-house and restaurant management teams, ensuring compliance with health department sanitation codes, and fostering strong teamwork among kitchen staff and other departments. You will be expected to participate in recruiting, training, and career development plans for kitchen crew as well as assisting with guest service issue resolution in partnership with the Restaurant Manager.

This role requires a candidate who thrives in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment with excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills. The Galley Supervisor must also demonstrate a strong understanding of sanitation requirements, kitchen operations, and guest service best practices. Physical demands include working in conditions that may involve exposure to extreme temperatures and lifting heavy items. As this is a customer-facing role in a hospitality and transportation setting, excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with diverse personality types are essential.

This is a full-time position requiring availability to work on major holidays and meet minimum state age requirements. Job Requirements

  • high school diploma or equivalent
  • proven experience as a kitchen manager or similar role in a high-volume culinary establishment
  • minimum of two years of total kitchen experience
  • one year of kitchen staff management experience preferred
  • minimum two years formal culinary training or equivalent kitchen work experience in a full-service or banquet high volume environment
  • SERV Safe certified
  • strong leadership communication and organizational skills
  • knowledge of health department sanitation codes and requirements
  • ability to thrive in a fast-paced high-pressure environment
  • excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work well with a variety of personalities and under pressure
  • must be able to work in a kitchen environment that may involve exposure to extreme heat or cold
  • required to lift and move heavy items such as cases of provisions and large containers of prepared foods
  • will be required to be available for work on all major holidays
  • must meet minimum state age requirements

Job Duties

  • act as the on-duty galley kitchen manager for cruises and manage the kitchen crew to ensure adherence to company standards and procedures
  • maintain continuous communication with the back of the house and restaurant management regarding staff and operations
  • ensure that all staff consistently follow and adhere to all health department sanitation codes and requirements thereby maintaining the company’s strict standards of sanitation
  • maintain close liaison between the kitchen and other departments including the front-of-the house
  • participate in recruiting and training of all new kitchen crew
  • provide input to the kitchen management about the development and career growth plans for each member
  • recommend to the kitchen management the promotion of each member
  • develop positive working relationships and strong teamwork
  • resolve guest service issues, in conjunction with the on-duty restaurant manager, utilizing strong guest service skills and exercising diplomacy in keeping with company objective of guest retention
  • participate in operation task forces as requested
  • additional job duties assigned
