We are currently seeking a hospitality-focused Director of Culinary Services to join our vibrant team. This leadership role involves full-scope, hands-on management of the Culinary Services Department, where you will ensure the delivery of a superior level of quality service and cleanliness. As a vital member of the management team, the Director of Culinary Services will align closely with Pomperaug Woods’ mission, philosophy, values, and the company’s vision and principles. The position requires someone who is passionate about creating a positive dining experience for residents by developing and maintaining a professional and upscale culinary program.

The Director of Culinary Services will play a key role in supervising the culinary staff, managing all aspects of food service operations including menu planning, compliance with nutritional standards, maintaining budgetary guidelines, and directly participating in cooking, serving, and other food service activities as necessary. This position demands a proactive leader who values team development, fosters a culture of hospitality, and supports the broader business objectives of the community. Additionally, the role requires engaging with residents to gather feedback and make continuous improvements to food service quality, ensuring that each meal provided is not only nutritious but also appealing in appearance and temperature.

Job Requirements

  • Associate or Bachelor degree
  • Completion of recognized food safety course
  • Minimum of five years experience as executive chef or chef in hotel, restaurant, or similar
  • Minimum of three years experience in administration and management of food service systems
  • Ability to maintain high standards of quality and cleanliness
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills
  • Commitment to hospitality and senior care culture

Job Qualifications

  • Associate or Bachelor degree in culinary arts preferred
  • Successful completion of a recognized food safety course
  • Minimum of five years experience as executive chef or chef in a similar environment
  • Minimum of three years experience in administration and management of food service systems
  • Senior living community experience preferred

Job Duties

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive culinary services program to create a positive experience for all customers
  • Supervise the Culinary Services Department including hiring, assigning, and appraising employees
  • Plan, develop, and serve menus compliant with nutritional and dietary regulations
  • Meet or exceed established budgetary and financial guidelines
  • Perform hands-on cooking, serving, and dishwashing as needed
  • Ensure the staff is professional, trained, properly uniformed, and talented
  • Visit residents periodically to evaluate and improve food service quality and procedures
