Java Cafe at Presidio of Monterey is a unique dining establishment nestled within a vibrant military community in California. The role at Java Cafe is designed for an energetic and customer-focused individual who thrives in a fast-paced food service environment. This position involves preparing a variety of short order fast food items such as hamburgers, hot dogs, fish and chicken sandwiches, pizzas, and french fries. The employee is expected to accept food orders, serve beverages, and handle cashier responsibilities including processing payments via cash or charge. Accuracy is paramount as the position requires the employee to verify guest checks and maintain reliable cash reports at the end of each shift. Good housekeeping and safety are strictly followed to ensure a healthy work environment. The role demands physical stamina for tasks such as frequent lifting of up to 40 pounds, cleaning work surfaces, and occasional use of ladders and power cleaning equipment. The candidate must be adaptable to work weekends, weekdays, holidays, night shifts, and special events as required. This position offers an excellent opportunity to develop skills in food preparation, customer service, and cash handling within a supportive team setting. Job Requirements
- Direct deposit and Social Security card is required
- Meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position
- Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check
- Satisfactory completion of a minimum of 4 hours initial food sanitation and safety training within 30 days of employment and a minimum of 4 hours refresher training annually
- A pre-employment occupational physical is required
- Willing and able to work weekends, weekdays, holidays and night duty, as well as irregular duties or for special events
- Subject to satisfactory completion of all pre-employment checks including Tier 1 background investigation
- Light to heavy physical effort required
- Frequently lifts and moves objects weighing up to 40 pounds, occasionally up to 45 pounds
- Required to walk, stoop, bend, pull, push and reach frequently and stand for long periods
- May be required to work on ladders and use power cleaning equipment
- May be exposed to hot liquids, sharp cutting blades, hot working surfaces and extreme temperature changes
- May be required to complete Tier 1 background investigation for Common Access Card
- Must meet state/local age requirements at time of appointment if serving alcoholic beverages
Job Qualifications
- Experience or training that indicates sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of this position consistent with acceptable practices of the trade
- Ability to work without more than normal supervision
- Must be able to keep things neat, clean and in order
- Possess basic food preparation and handling techniques
- Possess the ability to interpret verbal and written instructions
- Knowledgeable of basic sanitation principles
- Possess the ability to use and maintain kitchen tools and equipment
- Able to lift and move objects up to 40 pounds and frequently walk, bend, stoop, pull, push and reach
- Must meet state/local age requirements if serving alcoholic beverages
Job Duties
- Prepares a limited variety of short order fast food items such as hamburgers, hot dogs, fish and chicken sandwiches, pizzas, french fries
- Accepts food orders from patrons and serves beverages
- Spot checks guest checks to ensure that the information recorded is correct
- Serves as cashier in the snack bar, receiving payment by cash or charge
- Completes cash report at the end of assigned shift
- Follows all safety, security, and good housekeeping rules
- Ensures that tables/work surfaces are promptly cleared and cleaned
- Cleans other work areas including walls, floors, equipment, and storage areas
- Performs other duties as assigned
