Job Description

Bridgeport Hospital, a member of the Yale New Haven Health System (YNHHS), is dedicated to delivering high-quality medical care that focuses on the specific needs of each patient. Renowned for its commitment to a patient-centered approach, Bridgeport Hospital consistently strives to meet the standards of a Patient-Centered Medical Home, ensuring that healthcare delivery is coordinated, continuous, and comprehensive. As a leading medical institution, the hospital advocates for an environment where patients are the focal point of their care team, enhancing outcomes through collaboration among various healthcare professionals. Bridgeport Hospital embraces a set of core values—integrity, patient-centeredness, respect, accountability, and compassion—which form the foundation for all its operations and interactions. Every staff member is expected to internalize these values and demonstrate them in their daily roles to uphold the hospital’s mission and vision.

This role is an integral part of the Food and Nutrition Services department, serving under the supervision of the Food & Nutrition Services Supervisor. The position primarily involves responsibilities related to stocking and maintaining cleanliness within the department and various hospital units. It is critical to understand that all employees, regardless of their role, contribute meaningfully to patient care, reinforcing the hospital’s team-centric approach. The Utility role is essential in ensuring that food service operations run smoothly by adhering to strict cleaning schedules, proper sanitation practices, and timely delivery of meals. Duties include washing pots and utensils following established protocols, transporting meal delivery trucks quickly and efficiently to appropriate hospital units according to the meal schedule, and maintaining a sanitary environment in both production and retail food areas to prevent contamination and ensure patient safety.

Safety is given the highest priority; employees in this role actively enforce departmental safety protocols to protect patients, staff, and visitors alike. The role demands physical stamina, requiring the ability to stand, walk, and perform manual tasks for extended periods. Candidates must be capable of lifting weights ranging from 20 to 30 pounds regularly, with occasional lifting of heavier loads, as well as pushing and pulling equipment and carts. Furthermore, successful candidates will have completed both hospital-wide and department-specific orientations to align with organizational standards and expectations.

Bridgeport Hospital also takes equal employment opportunity seriously, maintaining inclusive hiring practices that support individuals with disabilities and veterans. This reinforces the organization’s commitment to diversity and accommodation, ensuring all employees have the resources they need to perform their duties effectively. The hospital offers a supportive working environment that cultivates professional growth and development while providing essential services that maintain the wellbeing of its patients and community. Joining Bridgeport Hospital means becoming part of a respected institution that values teamwork, excellence, and a compassionate approach to healthcare delivery.
