This establishment has earned a strong reputation in the Boston culinary scene for its commitment to craftsmanship, community, and innovation in baking. Flour Bakery is dedicated to providing a vibrant, team-oriented atmosphere where bakers and pastry professionals can grow their skills and careers within a forward-thinking and supportive environment. The bakery operates a state-of-the-art facility in the Seaport district, often referred to as the Big Kitchen, which supports high-volume production without compromising quality or creativity.
The Cake Decorator / Cake Finisher role at Flour Bakery’s Big Kitchen is a full-time position focused on producing and decorating large volumes of various cake types daily, including popular items like carrot cakes, triple chocolate mousse cakes, vanilla birthday cakes, and seasonal specialties. This role offers an exciting opportunity for professional bakers passionate about cake decorating to work within a bustling kitchen environment and contribute critically to the bakery's product lineup. The position generally requires shifts from 12 pm to 10 pm, approximately four shifts per week, with flexibility to work weekends. The ideal candidate will embrace a fast-paced environment, take pride in maintaining Flour’s rigorous quality standards, and demonstrate enthusiasm for teamwork and open communication.
Bakers in this role not only focus on cake decorating but are encouraged to cross-train across different stations to gain comprehensive knowledge of all pastry operations within the bakery. Key responsibilities include decorating cakes with buttercream and ganache, reading and interpreting order slips with allergen precautions, consolidating products using FIFO inventory management, and assisting with organization and sanitation of workstations. A strong commitment to maintaining cleanliness, organization, and a positive team culture is emphasized. This position offers competitive compensation, typically ranging from $17 to $28.41 per hour, including a base pay and a shared appreciation bonus linked to sales performance.
Flour Bakery invests heavily in training and employee development, fostering growth opportunities within the company for motivated individuals. Employees benefit from a collaborative, inclusive workplace that values reliability, attention to detail, and a passion for baking artistry. Compensation also includes comprehensive benefits such as health, dental, and vision insurance, 401k with employer match, paid vacation and sick time, and a generous staff meal policy. This job offers bakery professionals a chance to grow their skills while contributing to a highly respected culinary institution committed to quality and innovation.
