Job Description
JL Restaurant Group is a renowned hospitality company recognized for its commitment to excellence in dining experiences. Among its distinguished establishments is Hank's Oyster Bar, located in Old Town, Alexandria, which is celebrated for delivering exceptional seafood in a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere. The group also operates a unique second-floor concept, Hank's Pasta Bar, which complements the oyster bar with a focus on authentic Italian pasta dishes and a refined yet casual dining experience. JL Restaurant Group prides itself on fostering a team-oriented environment where every employee is empowered to contribute to the company's success while upholding high standards of service, quality, and guest satisfaction.
The Floor Manager role at Hank's Oyster Bar and Hank's Pasta Bar is a pivotal leadership position responsible for the smooth operation and management of front-of-house activities. Reporting directly to the General Manager, the Floor Manager oversees personnel scheduling, training, and daily operational flow to ensure that the restaurant meets its financial goals while delivering outstanding service. This non-exempt position demands a hands-on leader who can manage both the people and processes involved in day-to-day restaurant operations efficiently. The Floor Manager is deeply involved in managing staff performance, guest relations, and operational logistics, including menu management, event coordination, and inventory tracking.
Key responsibilities include creating and managing schedules for both front-of-house (FOH) and back-of-house (BOH) teams across seven shifts weekly, ensuring employee compliance with JL Restaurant Group policies, and leading the training initiatives for the Pasta Bar team. The Floor Manager also maintains team side work sheets, manages print menus for accuracy, and collaborates with the Assistant General Manager on private event execution. Financial oversight is integral to this role, involving the monitoring of sales, costs, and purchases, participation in monthly Profit and Loss meetings, and devising actionable plans to enhance sales and control expenses.
Effective communication and guest satisfaction are core to the Floor Manager’s duties. This includes leading daily pre-shift meetings, coordinating with other managers, resolving staff issues promptly, and maintaining accurate shift logs. The manager must actively engage with guests during service, address any concerns, update the General Manager on key matters, and ensure the FOH team is informed about menu changes and specials. Cooperation with the BOH team during service helps maintain seamless operations, especially in handling specific food requirements such as allergies and maintaining service standards.
The physical demands of this position require the ability to stand, walk, and bend for extended periods, as well as lift up to 30 pounds occasionally. This role is well suited to individuals who thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume environment (servicing over 1000 covers daily) and who exhibit excellent interpersonal skills coupled with financial literacy specific to restaurant operations. JL Restaurant Group embraces diversity and inclusion, proudly offering equal employment opportunities without discrimination. Candidates seeking to join a vibrant restaurant group deeply committed to hospitality excellence will find this Floor Manager role both challenging and rewarding.
