Job Description

University Medical Center Phoenix is a prestigious and nationally recognized academic medical center dedicated to delivering coordinated clinical care, advancing research initiatives, and nurturing future healthcare professionals. This world-class hospital in Phoenix, Arizona, boasts over 730 licensed beds and hosts several unique specialty units, making it a hub for advanced medical treatments and discoveries. In collaboration with the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Phoenix, the hospital is also a center for groundbreaking medical research and education. The medical center's commitment to nursing excellence has earned it Magnet recognition by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, underscoring its high standards of patient care and clinical excellence. The facility encompasses fully integrated multi-specialty and sub-specialty clinics, further enhancing its comprehensive care offerings.

Operating a hospital extends far beyond clinical procedures; it requires the dedicated efforts of numerous support personnel working behind the scenes to ensure a safe, clean, and effectively functioning environment for patients, visitors, and staff. The Environmental Services team at University Medical Center Phoenix plays a vital role in upholding these standards. Within this team, the Environmental Services Worker position is critical for maintaining hospital cleanliness and safety by conducting heavy cleaning and specialized floor care tasks. This includes carpet cleaning, stripping and refinishing hard floor surfaces, and fulfilling other special projects that demand a high level of attention to detail.

The role requires proficient use and operation of power cleaning equipment and involves responding promptly to service requests such as project cleaning, equipment removal, and the disposal of trash or linens. The position operates predominantly during the night shift, working from 11:00 PM to 7:30 AM, with weekend and holiday rotations integral to the job. This schedule offers a flat rate weekend shift differential of $1 per hour as well as an 18% night shift differential when applicable, making it a rewarding opportunity for dedicated night shift workers. Moreover, a $1000 sign-on bonus is offered, subject to recruiter-provided eligibility criteria, further incentivizing applicants.

The Environmental Services Worker exemplifies excellent customer service and prioritizes maintaining a safe and sanitized hospital environment. Duties include specialized cleaning procedures in clinical areas, surgical suites, and isolation rooms, adhering strictly to infection control standards and hand hygiene requirements. This position also entails maintaining and protecting department equipment, recognizing and addressing environmental hazards, and providing leadership to less experienced team members. Collaborative communication with supervisors and other hospital staff is essential to ensure timely repairs and the ongoing safety of the facility.

As part of a highly trained and cohesive team, this role is pivotal in guaranteeing that patients and visitors experience a clean and secure environment that supports optimal health outcomes. Joining University Medical Center Phoenix as an Environmental Services Worker means contributing to a reputable institution that values safety, quality, and compassionate care, all within an inclusive and supportive work culture. This full-time role is ideal for individuals with at least one to two years of experience in environmental services within healthcare or institutional settings, possessing the ability to multitask and work effectively amidst changing priorities and interruptions.
