This role primarily supports three custodial zone supervisors by coordinating and administering floor care activities across a wide variety of flooring surfaces, both porous and non-porous, within a research environment. The Floor Care Lead is an active working position responsible for overseeing a team of three floor care specialists. This position requires advanced expertise in floor care techniques such as stripping, waxing, polishing, and cleaning carpets and upholstery using equipment like buffers, burnishers, extractors, and wet vacuums. The role also involves direct communication and interaction with faculty, students, and staff, ensuring seamless coordination during work assignments and promptly resolving any operational challenges that may arise during shifts.
The Floor Care Lead must consistently adhere to the rigorous safety standards set by Caltech and relevant regulatory agencies to maintain a secure working environment. They will play a key role in training new floor care crew members, facilitating effective onboarding, and maintaining high-quality performance standards through inspections and detailed quality assurance reporting. Additional responsibilities include managing time-sensitive schedules, troubleshooting and performing minor repairs on floor care equipment, inventory management, supply requisition, and assisting supervisors with timekeeping and record-keeping tasks.
This position requires the ability to work a graveyard shift from Monday through Friday, 11:00 pm to 7:30 am, with potential for required overtime. The role demands physical stamina for lifting heavy equipment and bending to clean hard-to-reach areas. Overall, this opportunity is ideal for candidates with extensive custodial and floor care experience, leadership capabilities, and a commitment to maintaining a clean, safe, and supportive research environment at one of the world’s leading scientific institutions.
