Job Description
Vermont Outlet True Value Home Improvement Center is a well-established, independently owned home improvement store located in Los Angeles that has been serving the community since 1949. Over the past 75 years, Vermont Outlet has earned a stellar reputation for providing knowledgeable advice, exceptional customer service, and quality products to a diverse clientele that includes homeowners, contractors, apartment owners, property managers, students, and local businesses. The company has continued to thrive even in the face of competition from large national chains by focusing on personalized service and trusted expertise. Recognized with the "Best Hardware Store in Town" award by True Value and honored as a respected Home Improvement Center by the North American Hardware and Paint Association (NHPA), Vermont Outlet prides itself on its strong relationship with the local community and its commitment to customer satisfaction.
Vermont Outlet does not merely employ associates; they invest in their development and encourage all team members to contribute to the company's success by making decisions, solving problems, and continuously learning new skills. This inclusive and empowering work culture creates an environment where every employee feels valued and motivated. The company places high importance on professional growth, offering training programs such as True Value University and numerous opportunities for career advancement.
The Retail Sales Associate / Cashier role at Vermont Outlet is a crucial part of the team that ensures customers enjoy an exceptional shopping experience. This full-time position involves working 40-50 hours per week, with rotating shifts that may start as early as 6:00 AM or as late as 9:30 AM, including weekends. As part of the day-to-day responsibilities, the associate assists customers in finding the right products for their home improvement projects, offers practical solutions, and helps customers in various departments including hardware, paint, plumbing, electrical, tools, fasteners, lawn and garden, and building materials.
The role also involves stocking shelves, receiving shipments, building displays, maintaining a clean and organized store, and operating the point-of-sale register efficiently. The Retail Sales Associate works independently but also supports fellow associates, contributing ideas to improve operations and fostering a positive work environment. The dynamic nature of retail means no two days are the same, keeping the role engaging and rewarding.
Vermont Outlet values candidates who enjoy helping people, have outstanding customer service skills, maintain a positive attitude, and display a strong work ethic. Basic math and computer skills are essential, as well as the ability to read a tape measure and familiarity with Microsoft Office and point-of-sale systems. The company prefers candidates with retail, hardware, construction, or building materials experience and requires bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish. Military experience is also highly valued and can be considered in determining starting pay. Physical demands include standing and walking for extended periods, lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, reaching, squatting, and safely moving store products.
In addition to competitive hourly pay, Vermont Outlet offers a comprehensive benefits package valued at $7,000 to $9,500 annually, subject to eligibility and company policies. Benefits include 60% employer-paid medical and dental coverage through Kaiser, paid time off, paid vacation and holidays, performance bonuses, semiannual sales incentives, employee merchandise discounts, college course assistance, and CalSavers matching contributions. These benefits, combined with a supportive team environment and opportunities for growth, make Vermont Outlet an employer of choice in the Los Angeles home improvement sector.
