This role is designed to fill temporary vacancies or absences within all schools and regions, stepping in as a Site Assistant in various cafeterias throughout the district. Scheduled as a 10-month position with a daily shift of 6 hours from Monday to Friday, this non-exempt role offers a starting salary of $21.23 per hour on the Support Salary Scale Grade S06. The role requires flexibility and readiness to work overtime as needed to cover the schedule of the assigned school during vacancies or staff absences. \n\nThe Food and Nutrition Services Floater Site Assistant is responsible for managing daily cafeteria operations. This includes overseeing food preparation, ensuring food quality, maintaining sanitation standards, and implementing the Free and Reduced Meals Program. The Assistant also directs and trains food service staff to maintain high standards and compliance with all applicable policies. Accountability of inventory, cash handling, banking, deposits, and recordkeeping is a key component of the role, demanding strong attention to detail and organizational skills. The successful candidate must use computer-based point-of-sale systems proficiently and communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing. In addition to managing day-to-day cafeteria functions, this position also markets food service programs to students and staff, supports training initiatives, and ensures all HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) and USDA requirements are met. The role demands physical stamina as it requires standing for long periods, lifting up to 40 lbs, and working in varied temperature environments such as kitchens and walk-in refrigerators. \n\nThis position is ideal for someone with at least two years of successful food service experience, a high school diploma or equivalent, and current or soon-to-be obtained SERV-SAFE Sanitation Certification. Preferred candidates will have prior food service experience in a public school system and familiarity with FCPS policies and programs. - Possession of a valid driver's license and reliable transportation
- Current SERV-SAFE Sanitation Certification or must obtain within six months of hire
- Knowledge of computer point-of-sale systems
- Knowledge of financial practices and procedures including cashiering, bank deposits, and cash accountability
- Ability to reconcile food sold to accountability sales and deposits
- Knowledge of standard sanitation procedures for care and cleaning of kitchen and equipment
- Knowledge of standard sanitation procedures as specified in HACCP for safe and sanitary food service
- Knowledge of quantity food preparation and forecasting to prevent waste
- Effective time management skills
- Proficiency in business math
- Ability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodations

Job Duties
- Direct and train food and nutrition services staff to ensure that established standards are followed
- Implementation of the Free and Reduced Meals Program at the school level
- Actively participates in the receiving, preparation, and serving of food to customers
- Manages accountability programs (ex: meal program inventory, banking, etc.)
- Accountable for food quality
- Markets the Food and Nutrition Services program to the school
- Maintain the daily records to include production sheets, temperature sheets, invoices and accountability paperwork including deposits
- Develop daily job work flows and coordinate daily work schedules
- Performs any of the food service worker tasks (ex: cashiering, food preparation, serving, dish room and sanitation), while at all times meeting the Department of Health regulations
- Assures that all recipes are properly followed
- Performs safety, and sanitation standards according to Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) requirements
- Manages inventory, orders, and account for food and supplies
- Attend and participate in required in-service training workshops and meetings
- Understand, communicate, and guarantee compliance with United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) School Nutrition Regulations
- Daily availability to work overtime to assume the schedule of the school with the absence/vacancy
- Effectively use and train staff on the timeclock to ensure accurate payroll
- Collect all leave forms for staff absences
- Work in the capacity of a site assistant or food service worker in all schools within Frederick County Public Schools
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Food and Nutrition Services Specialist
