Job Description

ABM (NYSE: ABM) is one of the largest and most respected providers of facility services and solutions worldwide. With a history dating back to 1909, ABM has grown to serve more than 20,000 clients across an expansive variety of industries including commercial office buildings, universities, airports, hospitals, data centers, manufacturing plants, distribution centers, and entertainment venues. The company operates from over 350 offices across the United States, the United Kingdom, the Republic of Ireland, and other international locations, offering a comprehensive suite of services such as janitorial, engineering, parking, electrical and lighting, energy and electric vehicle charging infrastructure, HVAC and mechanical, landscape and turf, and mission-critical solutions.

ABM is driven by a mission to create cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable environments in the spaces and places that matter most to their clients. As a military-friendly employer and equal opportunity company, ABM values diversity and inclusion, actively providing accommodations for individuals with disabilities and supporting veterans transitioning to civilian careers with world-class training and opportunities.

The role advertised is for a full-time, non-exempt hourly Floater Facilities Maintenance Technician located near South Post Oak Road and Beltway 8. This position reports directly to the Facilities Supervisor and involves performing routine building maintenance tasks across multiple trade disciplines including carpentry, electrical work, plumbing, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC). The successful candidate will play a crucial role in maintaining the operational integrity and safety of the facility through proactive maintenance, efficient repairs, and clear communication with clients and facilities management.

Specifically, the Floater Facilities Maintenance Technician will be responsible for conducting routine evaluations and repairs on plumbing, electrical systems, access control, and HVAC equipment. The candidate will respond quickly to mechanical or maintenance concerns raised on-site, utilizing relevant tools and supplies to complete the assigned tasks. A key attribute for this role is the ability to anticipate potential problems before they occur, minimizing downtime and improving the client experience.

Because YES Prep Public Schools, a highly reputable free public school system in Houston serving 15,000 students across 19 campuses, is the client where the technician will work, this role carries the responsibility of supporting an environment that fosters student achievement and safety. YES Prep is nationally recognized among the top 100 public high schools, with a record of 100 percent college acceptance of its graduates, including prestigious universities. Supporting the physical infrastructure of such an institution requires professionalism, effective communication, organization, and a customer service orientation.

The working hours for this position are Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 3 p.m., which offers a structured weekday schedule. ABM provides a comprehensive benefits package to its employees, rewarding them with financial and health-related security along with opportunities for professional growth. This position is ideal for a skilled facilities maintenance technician who is versatile across multiple trades, eager to work independently, and driven to contribute positively to both ABM and the client environment through dedication and technical expertise.
