The Diesel Mechanic role at US Foods is a critical position responsible for maintaining the safety and reliability of the company’s fleet equipment. This is a full-time position with a starting wage of $32.91 per hour, along with overtime compensation. The role works primarily onsite within a US Foods maintenance facility during a Sunday through Thursday schedule from 8:00 PM to 4:30 AM. This mechanic position requires expertise in diagnosing, repairing, and performing preventative maintenance on commercial diesel vehicles such as tractors, trailers, bobtails, and lift gates. Candidates will have the opportunity to work with newer equipment in a strong safety culture, supported by excellent local leadership. The position includes a tool allowance to equip the mechanic with necessary personal tools.

In this role, the Diesel Mechanic will troubleshoot and rebuild various diesel equipment systems, manage road calls by coordinating with vendors and business partners, and maintain detailed documentation through fleet maintenance software. The role demands hands-on experience, strong analytical skills, and the ability to perform independently while supporting other maintenance team members when needed. The work environment includes exposure to extreme weather conditions and requires physical stamina to frequently lift and carry heavy objects, stand, walk, and operate vehicles. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 3 years of verifiable hands-on experience as a heavy-duty commercial diesel mechanic
  • Diagnostic and troubleshooting competency relating to equipment repairs
  • Independently demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Prior experience in administering appropriate preventative maintenance programs
  • Must furnish own personal hand tools
  • Able to read and write legibly
  • Basic mathematical skills
  • Must possess valid driver’s license

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 3 years of verifiable hands-on experience as a heavy-duty commercial diesel mechanic
  • Demonstrated diagnostic and troubleshooting competency related to equipment repairs
  • Proven independent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience administering preventative maintenance programs
  • Able to read, write legibly and possess basic mathematical skills
  • Must possess valid driver’s license
  • Preferred: Valid Class-A CDL license and DOT certification
  • Preferred: Experience using fleet maintenance software
  • Preferred: Welding ability

Job Duties

  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, rebuild, replace and complete all required repairs on diesel equipment including tractors, trailers, bobtails, and lift gates
  • Perform preventative maintenance within DOT standards
  • Receive road calls, assign third party vendor, and coordinate with business partners on plan of action
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment in compliance with workplace safety rules, regulations, and government guidelines
  • Utilize fleet maintenance software system tablet to fully document equipment repair and parts used
  • Provide backup support to other maintenance shop personnel
  • Willingly assume increased responsibility and certificates as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned by manager
