Job Description

Mesilla Valley Transportation (MVT) is a renowned and well-established trucking company that has been serving the transportation needs across the southwestern United States and beyond since 1982. Originating as a small independent fleet, MVT experienced steady growth in the late 1980s, rapidly expanding its network to cover 48 connected states within the U.S. as well as extending into Canada. Today, MVT stands as one of the largest locally owned truckload carriers in the U.S., specializing in time-sensitive transportation services that connect major manufacturing hubs throughout the U.S., Canada, and the Mexican borders. MVT prides itself on its values that bring "family, careers, and success together," establishing a culture of dedication and community that values both its employees and customers alike.

The Fleet Manager role at MVT is based in El Paso, Texas, and is a full-time position within the Operations Department. Offering a competitive salary of $50,000 annually with additional monthly bonus potential based on key performance indicators (KPIs), the role is pivotal in maintaining and improving fleet operations and driver performance. Reporting directly at the terminal, the Fleet Manager is responsible for supervising a dedicated team of approximately 30 truck drivers, overseeing their performance metrics to ensure efficiency, professionalism, and reliability.

This role demands a proactive leader who ensures drivers meet high standards for on-time deliveries, safety, attendance, and conduct, while supporting their operational success by assigning the right equipment and optimizing fleet utilization. The Fleet Manager is deeply involved in monitoring satellite data to oversee driver hours of service and resolve log issues to maintain compliance and operational efficiency. Managing costs related to layovers, motel reimbursements, and advances also fall under the purview of this position. A key responsibility includes improving fuel efficiency by limiting idle times and encouraging drivers to use designated partner truck stops for fueling, which aligns with the company’s environmental and cost-saving objectives.

Candidates joining MVT as a Fleet Manager must bring supervisory experience of at least one year managing a team of 15 or more employees, holding at least a high school diploma or equivalent. Bilingual communication skills in English and Spanish are preferred, enhancing communication in the diverse operating region. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or related software, alongside strong familiarity with motor carrier operations and geography, are essential for success in this role. Working at MVT offers individuals the opportunity to be part of a respected family-owned business dedicated to growth and employee development with a significant presence in the transportation industry.
