Job Description

Mesilla Valley Transportation (MVT) is a reputable and well-established trucking company that has been serving the transportation industry since 1982. Originating as a modest independent fleet in the Southwest, the company strategically expanded throughout the late 1980s to cover the contiguous 48 states and Canada, positioning itself as a leader in the freight transportation sector. Today, MVT is recognized as one of the largest locally-owned truckload carriers in the United States, offering specialized time-sensitive services connecting major manufacturing hubs across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. The company prides itself on its commitment to family values, career growth, and operational success, creating a supportive and dynamic work environment for its employees.

MVT is currently seeking to hire a skilled and motivated Fleet Manager to join their team based in El Paso, TX. This role is pivotal to the company’s ongoing success, playing a critical part in managing the fleet operations and ensuring the efficient and safe delivery of goods. The Fleet Manager will oversee approximately 30 truck drivers, leading them to meet high performance and safety standards. The position is a full-time, on-site role at the El Paso terminal, offering a competitive annual salary of $50,000 plus potential monthly bonuses tied to key performance indicators (KPIs).

As a Fleet Manager at MVT, the successful candidate will be responsible for supervising drivers who operate trucks and trailers across various routes, ensuring efficiency, professionalism, and on-time delivery. This includes analyzing driver performance related to work quality, safety, attendance, and behavior, and enforcing disciplinary measures where necessary. The Fleet Manager will serve as a critical point of contact for escalations and operational questions, providing guidance and leveraging company resources effectively. Additionally, the role requires maintaining truck and trailer performance to maximize profitability through optimized mileage and improved fuel efficiency. This involves monitoring satellite communication to manage service hours and resolve driver log discrepancies.

The Fleet Manager will also control expenses related to layovers, motel reimbursements, and advances, while promoting the use of partner truck stops to reduce fuel costs and idle time. Strong leadership and communication skills are essential for this role, especially the ability to motivate and guide employees toward achieving organizational goals. MVT values candidates who bring a comprehensive understanding of motor carrier operations, geographical knowledge, and proficiency in Microsoft Office or similar software tools. Bilingual skills in English and Spanish are preferred to facilitate effective communication within the diverse team.

Joining Mesilla Valley Transportation means becoming part of a company that emphasizes a family-oriented culture where careers and success are nurtured together. The Fleet Manager role offers an excellent opportunity for professional growth within a respected and expanding regional transportation leader. The company’s commitment to time-sensitive service delivery and operational excellence provides a challenging yet rewarding work environment for the right candidate.
