The Fleet Manager role at Bimbo Bakeries USA is an integral part of the operational team responsible for managing and overseeing the daily activities of specific garages within the Central US Region. This role involves direct management of staff, ensuring vehicle maintenance, safety compliance, and coordination of third-party vendors to support the efficient functioning of the fleet. The Fleet Manager plays a critical role in maintaining a safe and reliable fleet of company-owned vehicles by implementing and enforcing fleet operational policies in line with local, state, and federal regulations. Efficient management of mechanics, both in terms of their daily activities and their skills development, is vital to ensure vehicles and equipment meet the highest standards of safety and reliability. This role also champions continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing product quality, service delivery, and operational processes with the goal of reducing waste and increasing profitability within the region. Additionally, the Fleet Manager oversees compliance with preventive maintenance programs, safety inspections, and incident investigations, thereby safeguarding company assets and workforce safety. Job Requirements

  • Technical degree in related field
  • 5-7 years experience in fleet or transportation field
  • Knowledge of DOT and state inspection programs
  • Background in heavy vehicle repair
  • 3-5 years supervisory experience
  • Strong leadership and management skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills
  • Computer proficiency including PowerPoint, Excel, and Word

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Manage company owned vehicles, garages, and mechanics to provide a safe and dependable fleet of vehicles
  • Ensure and maintain a safe environment through compliance with all company, local, state and federal mandates or programs
  • Create a continuous improvement environment by improving products, service, and processes with the objective to reduce waste while striving for efficiency and profitability
  • Oversee mechanics performing repairs and maintenance on vehicles and equipment to ensure readiness and safety
  • Coach and train mechanics in light and heavy-duty repairs
  • Champion special projects to achieve budget and productivity goals
  • Utilize fleet tools and programs to manage defined standards
  • Complete and lead fleet audit compliance and correction
  • Manage preventive maintenance program compliance and maintain accurate service and inspection records
  • Complete incident reports and conduct full investigations to determine root cause
  • Administer fleet department safety programs within the region
  • Review purchasing programs and manage parts inventory
  • Acquire and maintain expertise in fleet maintenance management software
  • Assist in budget control and implement cost cutting measures
  • Oversee third party maintenance providers
