The Food Service Cook role at BronxCare Health System is an integral position responsible for the preparation and cooking of meals that meet the nutritional and dietary needs of patients, visitors, and staff. Working under the direction of the Food Production Manager or Assistant Food Service Director, the Food Service Cook performs a range of culinary tasks including meat trimming, spicing, baking, and portion control to ensure the delivery of timely and high-quality meals.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience in large-scale food preparation
- Training in institutional food preparation or equivalent
- Knowledge of cooking methods and procedures
- Familiarity with kitchen equipment
- Ability to follow recipes and production instructions
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
Job Qualifications
- Knowledge of cooking methods and procedures, including various types of preparation and related routines

- Training in institutional food preparation or equivalent demonstrated knowledge and skills
- Sufficient previous experience in large-scale food preparation
- Vocational courses in cooking, sanitation and operation of equipment
Job Duties
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with patients, visitors, and other employees
- Interact professionally, courteously, and appropriately with patients, visitors and other employees
- Contributes to and participates in the Performance/Quality Improvement activities of the assigned department
- Consults with Food Production Manager or Assistant Food Service Director of production tasks
- Follows recipes and other production information to complete preparation of all menu items
- Performs tasks such as cutting and trimming meats, fish and poultry
- Cooks, bakes, etc. using appropriate utensils and/or cooking equipment
- Carves, slices or otherwise portions cooked foods to assure effective portion control and optimum utilization of food
- Prepares or assists Food Production Manager or Assistant Food Service Director
- Ensures proper monitoring of food quality, temperature and accuracy
- Ensures accurate recording of statistics to maintain production systems integrity
- Ensure proper care, maintenance and sanitation of work areas, equipment and supplies
- Maintains established policies and procedures, standards and practices in food preparation to achieve department objective of high quality, nutritional meals
- Attends all Department and Hospital in-service/orientation and other meetings as required
- Participates in educational programs or developmental in-services to improve skill level
- Performs other related duties as assigned
