Job Description

Hebrew Senior Life is a well-respected organization dedicated to providing compassionate and high-quality care to senior citizens. Specializing in senior living and rehabilitation services, this establishment focuses on enhancing the quality of life and fostering dignity and respect among its residents. As a part of its commitment to holistic care, Hebrew Senior Life ensures that every aspect of a resident's daily experience is addressed with professionalism and empathy. This makes Hebrew Senior Life not only a healthcare provider but also a community where seniors feel valued and supported.

The role of a Cook at Hebrew Senior Life is a vital position within the Culinary and Nutrition Department. This position entails preparing, cooking, and presenting food that meets strict quality and productivity standards while adhering to cost controls and forecast needs. The cook is expected to embrace the mission of Hebrew Senior Life by recognizing patient dignity and choice in food preferences and meal experiences. Every meal prepared is an opportunity to contribute positively to the well-being of residents. The role demands a strong commitment to safety, efficiency, and professionalism, combined with the skills and knowledge required to operate in a fast-paced, demanding environment.

This full-time position offers a competitive salary range of $40,104 to $56,145 annually, reflecting the essential responsibilities carried by the cook. The work schedule is designed to accommodate the operational needs of the kitchen and includes shifts on Sunday, Monday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, with Tuesdays and Wednesdays off. This schedule supports both work-life balance and consistent service delivery to residents. The cook will be involved in various aspects of kitchen management, from ensuring that food waste is minimal to maintaining proper food labeling and rotation in walk-in refrigerators and freezers. The candidate will also support sanitation and safety standards according to local, state, federal, and kosher regulations where applicable.

In addition to technical cooking skills, this role requires excellent interpersonal capabilities to foster positive relationships among colleagues and to interact respectfully with the residents. The cook will actively participate in food preparation processes, equipment maintenance, and adherence to sanitation protocols. With direct collaboration with the Junior Sous Chef and Executive Sous Chef, the cook will help ensure the timely and appealing presentation of meals and daily specials. The position also involves ongoing learning and compliance training to keep up-to-date with nutrition, sanitation, and food safety standards.

This role is not only about cooking but also about demonstrating professionalism through effective communication, positive attitude, initiative, and flexibility. The cook is a visible representative of the Culinary and Nutrition Department and Hebrew Rehabilitation Center values. Those who excel in this position show motivation to grow, attention to detail, and respect the dignity of every person they serve, enriching the lives of senior residents through food service excellence.
