Reporting directly to the Vehicle Maintenance Facility (VMF) supervisor, the technician is responsible for preventative maintenance, diagnosing and correcting mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electric, and electronic faults, and ensuring compliance with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards. The role requires proficiency in the use of diagnostic and repair tools, as well as the ability to respond to emergency callouts and perform field repairs on critical fire apparatus, sometimes in extreme environmental conditions such as Antarctica.

The technician is also tasked with maintaining thorough service logs, providing training to Antarctic Fire Department personnel, and assisting with succession training initiatives. Requirements include a high school diploma or GED and considerable experience as an Emergency Vehicle Technician or vehicle mechanic, ideally with hands-on exposure to fire apparatus repair and maintenance, and experience with brands like Oshkosh, Pierce, E-One, Ford, International, and Freightliner. The position demands strong mechanical aptitude, excellent organizational skills, cross-cultural sensitivity, and the ability to work collaboratively within a team in a fast-paced environment.

Physical demands are significant, including heavy lifting, operating machinery, and working outdoors in extreme weather conditions.
