Job Description
Morrison House is a distinguished establishment located in Alexandria, Virginia, known for its impeccable hospitality and culinary excellence. As part of a larger portfolio comprising more than 120 hotels, restaurants, bars, and venues across the United States, Morrison House commits daily to enriching the lives of guests through exceptional experiences. The property, rich with history and charm, is an inspiring workplace that encourages its associates to go above and beyond in service quality, fostering a collaborative and motivating environment. Morrison House’s outlet, The Study, offers a culinary experience that reflects both creativity and tradition within a comfortable and elegant setting. The company esteems its workforce and prides itself on cultivating a culture of continuous learning and development, where every team member can thrive and progress in their career.
This is a Regular Full-Time position offering a minimum compensation of USD $21.00 per hour. The role is situated at Morrison House, specifically within the culinary outlet, The Study. The position focuses on ensuring high standards of kitchen service from the front line through quality control, staff training, and sanitation compliance. It is a pivotal role that demands attention to detail, culinary expertise, and strong organizational skills to maintain consistency and quality in food preparation. The selected candidate will be responsible for monitoring and enforcing the proper use of recipes and portion sizes as per the SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures), ensuring food safety through timely labeling, rotation, and temperature control of perishables, and keeping the kitchen efficient and well-stocked.
The job requires preparing food items with consistent quality by following recipe cards and production standards, coordinating closely with service staff to meet demand without overproducing, and promptly responding to out-of-stock situations or shortages. Equipment maintenance and adherence to cleanliness policies such as the kitchen's "clean as you go" rule are critical components, emphasizing a safe and hygienic working environment. This role demands physical stamina and mobility, including lifting food cases weighing up to 70 lbs, periodic climbing, bending, and the ability to stand for extended periods. The kitchen environment can be challenging, with temperatures ranging from the freezing cold of a walk-in freezer to the heat of cooking areas surpassing 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Conscientiousness in following verbal and written instructions and strong communication skills are essential for success. The position also involves assisting with controlling food costs by minimizing waste and managing inventory effectively. This opportunity is an excellent fit for individuals passionate about culinary arts and who are committed to elevating guest experiences through kitchen excellence.
