As a Final Mile Driver at Southeastern, you will play a crucial role in the last stage of the delivery process, responsible for picking up, transporting, and delivering freight locally. This role does not involve driving commercial CDL-A vehicles and specifically excludes hazardous materials transportation. The position is designed for drivers with expertise in handling a range of freight types in non-CDL trucks, emphasizing safety, efficiency, and attention to detail.

The Final Mile Driver is tasked with the safe and timely transportation of freight from the point of origin to the destination. Responsibilities include loading and unloading shipments, which may be performed individually or with assistance, using mechanical freight handling equipment when necessary. The role demands frequent physical activity such as lifting, pulling, and carrying freight, making physical stamina essential.

A critical part of the job is conducting thorough vehicle inspections before, during, and after each trip. Drivers must identify and report any defects or safety issues via a written Vehicle Condition Report submitted at the end of each trip. Additionally, drivers verify shipping documents to ensure the absence of hazardous materials and guarantee that all necessary paperwork like manifests, security seal sheets, bills of lading, shipping orders, and freight bills are in order and accompany the shipment upon delivery.

Documentation plays a vital role in this position; therefore, the Final Mile Driver is responsible for accurately completing all paperwork related to vehicle operations and freight movements. You will be joining a company that values training and career growth, as evidenced by the requirement to enter Southeastern's Driver Trainee Program after successfully completing one year as a Final Mile Driver.

This full-time role operates on the first shift, offering competitive pay ranging from $31.35 to $34.50 per hour, depending on location and experience. The position requires a minimum of six months driving experience and the ability to pass stringent background checks and drug/alcohol testing. Southeastern prefers candidates with prior experience in using pallet jacks, loading and unloading freight, driving box trucks, or possessing a CDL B license.
