These technologies are pivotal for vital applications across data centers, communication networks, and commercial and industrial environments, ensuring seamless operations for some of the most critical sectors worldwide. With a robust presence in over 130 countries and a workforce of approximately 34,000 professionals headquartered in Westerville, Ohio, Vertiv serves as a trusted service provider to more than 70 percent of Fortune 500 companies, including industry-leading data centers and providers of colocation and cloud services. The company blends innovative hardware, software, analytics, and ongoing services to empower customers’ vital applications to run continuously, perform optimally, and scale in tandem with their evolving business needs.
The role of Field Service Technician at Vertiv is tailored for motivated and skilled professionals who provide on-site and remote service support for Small to Medium Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS), Power Distribution Units (PDU), and Battery system products ranging from 2 to 120KVA. This position involves both scheduled maintenance and remedial (break-fix) servicing of sophisticated power systems primarily for Vertiv's “Edge” market segments, which encompass retail, financial, and municipal customers. The Field Service Technician is essential in upholding company reputation by maintaining excellent rapport with customers, co-workers, sales representatives, and various stakeholders. This position demands a high level of technical training, which Vertiv supports through state-of-the-art Training Academies and Regional Training Centers focusing on immersive, hands-on learning experiences.
Field Service Technicians at Vertiv benefit from a company culture that prioritizes safety, customer service excellence, ongoing technical and leadership development, and a strong work/life balance. They receive competitive benefits, including company-provided vehicles, smartphones, laptops, personal protective equipment, 401(k) plans, profit-sharing options, paid time off, and comprehensive medical, vision, and dental coverage. Technicians have access to abundant technical resources, 24/7 technical and factory support, and extensive online documentation and troubleshooting resources.
The day-to-day responsibilities entail performing service tasks according to company policies and procedures while effectively communicating with technical support and customers to ensure the highest level of customer satisfaction. The role requires operational independence after training, evaluation of technical and commercial decisions under pressure, and diligent completion of administrative duties like service reports, time cards, and inventory management. Health and safety are paramount, with strict adherence to guidelines and regulations concerning PPE, safe vehicle operation, and incident reporting.
Candidates for this position are expected to have education or experience such as a high school diploma or vocational training, military experience in a related technical field, or some relevant industry experience. Strong interpersonal skills, administrative capability, and fundamental technical proficiency with test equipment and repair techniques are essential. The role involves some travel, flexible scheduling, and maintaining the physical ability to handle tasks involving standing, walking, lifting, and climbing.
Vertiv operates with core principles of safety, integrity, respect, teamwork, and inclusion and follows strategic priorities centered on a high-performance culture with a customer focus, operational excellence, innovation, and financial strength. This role is vital to the company as it helps execute these strategic priorities and reinforces Vertiv as an employer of choice, especially for veterans and those committed to technical careers in a supportive environment. Vertiv is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion, providing reasonable accommodations as needed to support candidate success.
