The Field Service Engineer - Ultrasound role, based in Newark, NJ, is a crucial position within Philips' service team. This job focuses on delivering exceptional customer support by applying technical expertise to install, troubleshoot, service, and maintain ultrasound equipment at customer sites. The role demands strong customer relationship management skills and a deep understanding of technical challenges associated with diagnostic imaging devices. As part of the job, the engineer adheres strictly to Philips, State, and Federal regulations while performing maintenance and repairs.

This position requires substantial travel—about 70%—to customer locations within the designated geographic area, including some overnight and extended travel by road or air as necessary. The Field Service Engineer must be flexible with working hours, ready to work second or third shifts, weekends, or on-call hours as dictated by business needs. The job also requires working safely in various environments, including hospitals and healthcare facilities, complying with all safety regulations related to radiation and personal protective equipment.

Compensation for this role ranges hourly from $32.00 to $51.00, plus eligibility for overtime pay. Additional financial incentives include service and lead generation bonuses, on-call pay, and benefits such as a company vehicle, training, and career advancement opportunities. Job Requirements

Job Qualifications

  • Associate degree in electronics or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 1+ years of experience in a diagnostic imaging service environment or 3+ years in electromechanical industries
  • ability to understand and apply electronic, mechanical, and networking theory to install, diagnose, and repair equipment
  • knowledge and use of necessary tools and test equipment
  • strong problem-solving skills
  • effective communication and customer service abilities
  • willingness to work flexible hours including on-call and weekends

Job Duties

  • Provide exceptional customer service by adhering to customer entitlements, setting clear expectations, and meeting commitments and arrival times to address and resolve customer needs
  • understand the customer's business and competitive environment
  • generate service revenue
  • actively participate as a member of the regional work team
  • work to improve team processes and identify training gaps
  • seek out opportunities to increase capability and capacity, may be required to become qualified in multiple modalities, learn new tools
  • perform all administrative duties within established Philips, State, and Federal regulatory requirements and timeframes including timesheets, service work orders, expense reports, Field Change Orders (FCO), preventative maintenance (PM), installation documents, site and service documentation, and other related paperwork
  • adhere to established training, quality, and safety requirements
  • utilize tools, support, resources, and escalation processes within required time frames to resolve customer and system problems timely and effectively
  • complete PMs, FCOs, installation and all related tasks including diagnose and resolve electronic, network, and mechanical problems
  • travel approximately 70% across the specified geography with average daily driving time of 1-4 hours
  • occasional overnight stays and travel by air and/or train may be required
