The position offered is that of a Field Service Engineer based remotely in the San Francisco Bay Area, California. This employment is full-time, with standard Monday through Friday working hours and travel requirements that comprise approximately 50 to 75 percent of the time, including overnight trips. The salary range for this role in California is approximately $27.91 to $41.86 per hour, supplemented by the possibility of an annual variable bonus based on individual, team, and company performance.

As a Field Service Engineer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring customer laboratories operate at peak performance by installing, maintaining, calibrating, troubleshooting, and repairing a variety of laboratory equipment, including incubators, centrifuges, refrigerators, and freezers. Your technical expertise will directly impact scientific discovery by minimizing equipment downtime and safeguarding critical research processes.

The role requires a high degree of independence balanced with collaboration, as you will coordinate with colleagues in technical, sales, and customer support departments. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with assistance and routinely move equipment weighing 25-30 pounds
  • Willingness to travel approximately 50-75 percent of the time including overnight stays
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future
  • Must be able to pass a comprehensive background check and drug screen
  • Maintain a valid driver's license and safe driving record
  • Ability to work in cleanroom, laboratory, manufacturing, and healthcare environments while wearing required personal protective equipment
  • Adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices safety standards
  • Comfortable working in cold rooms and with hazardous/toxic materials
  • Physical ability to stand, bend, kneel, climb and work in confined spaces

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Technical certificate, Associate's degree, or Bachelor's degree in HVAC, Engineering, Electronics, or related field preferred
  • Experience troubleshooting, repairing, or maintaining electrical, mechanical, or electromechanical equipment preferred
  • Ability to troubleshoot electromechanical equipment using electrical schematics, technical documentation, and diagnostic tools
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly
  • Excellent customer service, communication, and relationship-building skills
  • Proficiency with Windows, Microsoft Office, and service management software
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous learning

Job Duties

  • Install, maintain, calibrate, troubleshoot, and repair laboratory equipment including incubators, centrifuges, refrigerators, and freezers
  • Diagnose electrical, mechanical, and refrigeration issues using schematics, service documentation, diagnostic software, and test equipment
  • Deliver an exceptional customer experience through responsive communication, technical expertise, and dependable service
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve customer issues and identify opportunities for additional products and services
  • Continuously develop technical knowledge through product training, safety programs, and industry updates
  • Manage daily service operations by scheduling customer visits, responding to customer communications, completing field service reports, ordering parts, and maintaining accurate service documentation
