The role of a Sales Representative within the Sysco Specialty Meat Group is pivotal to the company’s ongoing growth and success. This full-time position is dedicated to achieving and surpassing specific sales plans within the assigned territory by effectively selling specialty meat products. The Sales Representative fosters strong business relationships with both existing and prospective customers, promoting the wide range of SSMG products and services through a consultative approach. In this role, the Sales Representative conducts in-person visits and presentations to engage customers and secure orders while keeping company goals for sales and gross profit maximization in sharp focus. The position requires a solution-oriented approach to customer issues and a proactive attitude towards managing orders, inventory availability, and logistical challenges. Additionally, the Sales Representative participates in company training programs and events to stay updated on product knowledge, market trends, and competitive activities, ensuring they remain a trusted resource for customers.
Beyond sales duties, the position involves coordinating communication with internal teams and customer accounts payable contacts to facilitate smooth financial operations and reduce days sales outstanding (DSOs). The Sales Representative also manages bid files, customer profiles, and call sheets with precision to maintain accurate pricing and minimize costly errors like credits and returns.
This role demands a professional with a culinary or food service background, preferably with two years of sales experience in the food service industry, and a strong understanding of meat and seafood products. Exceptional consultative selling skills, self-motivation, accountability, and proficiency in basic computer applications like MS Outlook are essential attributes. Decision-making authority includes independently managing customer relationships, pricing, and time, while collaborating on sales strategies and contract pricing with supervisors.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma
- 2 years of prior food service sales experience strongly preferred
- Strong knowledge of meat and seafood products or restaurant culinary background
- Ability to perform consultative sales
- Self motivated and able to manage time effectively without supervision
- Excellent customer relations skills
- Basic computer proficiency and knowledge of MS Outlook
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma
- Preferred 4-year degree in culinary arts business marketing agriculture animal science or related studies
- 2-year prior food service sales background strongly preferred
- Deep expertise of meat and seafood category or restaurant culinary background with a shown capacity to quickly learn and apply new knowledge
- Consultative sales ability
- Must be self motivated and accountable for time management without constant supervisor direction
- Exhibit strong customer relations skills and a sense of urgency in meeting customer needs
- Basic computer skills and proficiency with MS Outlook
Job Duties
- Establish develop and maintain business relationships with current customers and prospective customers in the assigned territory to generate new business for the Sysco Specialty Meat Group products and services
- Make in-person visits and presentations to existing and prospective customers
- Taking customer orders with SSMG goals in mind sales and GP stop maximization
- Participate review and oversee input of orders for customers via communication with inside sales partners
- React timely to customer problems and needs
- Review daily out of stocks shortages transportations issues and implement solutions quickly
- Review analyze and react to daily weekly sales and margin reports looking for improvement opportunities
