Job Description
Vertex is a global biotechnology company dedicated to scientific innovation and advancing treatments for serious diseases. Specializing in the development of transformative therapies, Vertex has built a reputation for addressing complex medical conditions with cutting-edge research and patient-centered care. As a leader in the biotech industry, Vertex emphasizes collaboration, diversity, and inclusion while fostering an environment that supports employee growth and well-being. The company offers competitive salaries, comprehensive benefits, and opportunities to contribute to meaningful advancements in healthcare.
Currently, Vertex is expanding its field reimbursement team as part of its mission to improve the lives of individuals living with serious kidney diseases. This expansion supports their journey toward the potential commercialization of novel investigational therapeutics targeting Immunoglobulin A nephropathy (IgAN), additional B cell-mediated diseases, and other genetic kidney conditions. These innovative therapies aim to address unmet medical needs, and Vertex is building a specialized team to facilitate patient access and support throughout the treatment process.
The role of Field Reimbursement Manager within the Kidney Patient Support Program (KPSP) represents a vital function in this expansion. This field-based position serves as a local subject matter expert in nephrology practices, providing non-promotional education on access and reimbursement. The manager will work closely with healthcare providers and office staff to ensure timely and efficient access to prescribed Vertex kidney therapies. This includes guiding offices through copay assistance programs, prior authorizations, and other patient affordability pathways.
As a Field Reimbursement Manager, the individual will be responsible for developing strong working relationships with nephrology teams, including care providers and administrative staff. This relationship-building supports the navigation of complex insurance and payer dynamics to overcome barriers to treatment access. The role requires expertise in commercial and government healthcare coverage policies, including Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance plans, as well as the ability to educate healthcare professionals on reimbursement workflows and payer requirements.
In addition to direct office engagement, the manager will independently handle a multistate geographic region, prioritizing patient and territory-specific needs based on payer trends and local practice resources. The ability to adapt engagement strategies to existing office workflows and maintain strict adherence to non-promotional guidelines is essential. The role demands confidentiality, compliance with legal and company policies, and a commitment to delivering a consistent, compliant patient experience.
Vertex offers a competitive salary range of $136,000 to $204,000 for this position, along with eligibility for an annual bonus and equity awards. Employees benefit from market-leading programs, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off with seasonal company shutdowns, educational assistance including student loan repayment, commuting subsidies, charitable donation matching, and retirement savings plans. This role involves significant travel within the assigned territory, reflecting the dynamic nature of the field-based responsibilities.
This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned professional with experience in specialty biologics, rare disease therapies, or complex pharmacy benefit products. The ideal candidate is skilled in account management, payer navigation, training, and strategic planning, with a demonstrated ability to resolve access challenges in a collaborative and compliant manner. If you are passionate about enhancing patient access and making a meaningful impact in the field of kidney disease therapies, Vertex welcomes your application to join their dedicated team.
