Job Description

Conservation Corps Minnesota & Iowa (CCMI) is a prominent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and an esteemed AmeriCorps grantee dedicated to empowering youth and young adults through meaningful service in environmental conservation and community support. Each year, CCMI engages hundreds of individuals in impactful programs that enhance outdoor recreation access, restore natural habitats, protect waterways, and respond to critical community needs and natural disasters. Founded on the mission to cultivate a community of emerging leaders devoted to serving people and the planet, CCMI emphasizes hands-on experience, leadership development, and fostering a deep connection with nature. For over two decades, the organization has been an instrumental force in shaping young conservation leaders, promoting sustainable environmental practices, and facilitating community resilience. More detailed information about CCMI can be found at conservationcorps.org.

The role of the Field Coordinator is pivotal within CCMI’s South District, focused primarily on leading and facilitating the Field Crew program. This program undertakes challenging and diverse conservation projects requiring effective troop coordination, comprehensive training, and logistical management. The Field Coordinator is responsible for offering vital training to Corpsmembers on essential skills such as chainsaw operation, defensive driving, tool safety, herbicide application, prescribed burning, and project-specific education like tree identification and GPS navigation. They also manage all field project logistics, from crew schedules and equipment maintenance to overseeing meal and lodging arrangements during out-of-town assignments. Collaborating closely with District Staff, Crew Leaders, and Project Partners, the Field Coordinator ensures that technical projects progress efficiently and safely.

Beyond training and logistics, the Field Coordinator plays a significant role in safety administration by implementing CCMI’s safety programs, developing emergency response plans, and conducting regular safety audits. Personnel management is another critical aspect of this role; the coordinator assists with hiring processes, performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, and ensures compliance with organizational policies. Maintaining and repairing equipment is also under their purview, alongside managing inventories of personal protective equipment, tools, herbicides, and chemicals.

This position requires a highly organized, proactive individual capable of multitasking, problem-solving, and working independently with minimal supervision while maintaining open communication within a diverse team. The Field Coordinator must be prepared for extensive travel, including overnight stays, to various crew locations and participate in district-wide training and outreach events. While based in Rochester, Minnesota, the role demands considerable time spent both locally and in the field, often involving deployment for disaster response efforts.

The employment type for this position is in-person, offering an hourly wage of $21.00. CCMI promotes an inclusive work environment and is an equal opportunity employer. By joining CCMI, the Field Coordinator will become part of a dedicated team that supports youth development, environmental stewardship, and community resilience through dynamic conservation initiatives.
